The USA Network legal drama Suits has returned to the Netflix Top 10 chart. The show, which ran between 2011 and 2019, followed the goings-on at the New York law firm Pearson Hardman. The Suits cast included Gabriel Macht, Patrick J. Adams, Rick Hoffman, Meghan Markle, Sarah Rafferty, and Gina Torres. When the first eight seasons of the show arrived on Netflix in 2023 along with the full nine-season show streaming on Peacock, it rocketed to the top of the streaming charts, breaking records for an acquired series by racking up billions of viewing minutes.

On the Netflix homepage, the Top 10 television shows chart for the United States on the day of July 4, 2024 shows that Suits is No. 4. It is one of just two acquired series on the list (considerably ahead of Your Honor at No. 8), only falling behind the Netflix originals Worst Roommate Ever, Supacell, and The Man with 1000 Kids. This resurgence for the legal drama comes in the wake of the long-awaited season 9 being added to the streaming platform.

Will This Continued Streaming Success Help The Upcoming Suits Spinoff?

Suits: L.A. Isn’t A Guaranteed Success

The original show’s streaming success has already resulted in the spinoff Suits: L.A. having a pilot ordered, led by Arrow alum Stephen Amell. However, it remains to be seen if the show’s record-breaking Netflix run translates into success for the new show. In fact, it has not yet been ordered to series by NBC, so it remains to be seen if the Los Angeles-set show, which could feature cameos from some of the original cast members according to a recent tease, even makes it to the air.

It could be the case that the Netflix effect is what led to the surge in interest in Suits. The streaming platform is known for providing bingeworthy content, usually premiering their original shows one season on top of debuting the entire runs of acquired shows. This encourages long-term binge-watching, which leads to shows garnering such high numbers of viewing minutes. However, a weekly show that doesn’t center the same characters or setting may not have the same kind of immediate appeal as binging the entire original show on the streaming platform.

It may take something more concrete like a proper Suits revival to capture the same sort of intense interest in a new show from the franchise. While original star Meghan Markle retired from acting when she married Prince Harry in 2018, the remaining cast is all still active in the industry. In fact, there have been various reunions of the original cast in prominent commercials, indicating that they may be willing to reprise their roles in a new version of the drama.
