A tease of a Robby vs. Miguel rematch in Cobra Kai season 6 raises some confusion about how the Sekai Taikai will work. Cobra Kai season 5 seemingly concluded the rivalry between Robby and Miguel via a heated showdown outside Johnny’s apartment. Miguel’s victory gave their rivalry a clear winner and paved the way for both to move on. But while they were shown to be on friendly terms afterward, it’s become apparent that Cobra Kai isn’t done pitting the two against each other.

For reasons that haven’t been disclosed, Robby and Miguel look to be on track for yet another rematch. In the Cobra Kai season 6 trailer, Miguel can be heard saying, “It just means I have to beat Robby again.” The two were also bowing to each other in the Miyagi-do dojo, further hinting at a fight between them in Cobra Kai season 6. As for why they’re fighting, and why Miguel is of the opinion that he needs another win over Robby, that remains unclear and is arguably one of the biggest points of interest going into the first block of Cobra Kai’s final season.

Miguel Fighting Robby Again Could Be A Hint About The Sekai Taikai’s Rules

Are Robby & Miguel Fighting Over A Position In The Tournament?

One way to interpret Miguel’s line is to attribute it to the implications of competing in a tournament. Miguel, for instance, had to fight his own teammate in Hawk in season 1. But, this scenario exists with every competition, and would extend to all of his teammates, not just Robby. The fact that the show draws attention to the possibility of Miguel fighting Robby specifically suggests that they’ll be facing each other for a different reason.

A more sensible explanation is that their rematch has to do with the tournament format. So far, the show hasn’t explained what the rules of the Sekai Taikai are or how it’ll be different from past competitions. Johnny and Daniel’s team probably won’t include all of their fighters, so competitiveness between their students does seem reasonable. However, the two simply fighting over a spot in the tournament is highly unlikely. As two of the dojo’s strongest fighters, it’s hard to imagine either being left out or needing to secure a spot.

Rather, it may be that they’re fighting for a specific role on Johnny, Daniel, and Chozen’s team. It’s possible that each dojo in the Sekai Taikai will be assigned a team captain. If that position goes to the top fighter, it could be that Robby and Miguel will have to fight for it. Or, they could be competing for a more favorable seed in the tournament bracket.

How Cobra Kai Season 6 Could Restart Their Rivalry

Miguel Could Still See Robby As A Rival

In contrast to their fight in season 5, it looks like Robby and Miguel won’t be fighting because of a mutual dislike for one another. But, that’s not to say there won’t be a personal element to it. With Johnny and Robby growing increasingly closer, it makes sense that the two training together will be a key part of their season 6 arc. So as a result of his improved relationship with his father, Robby may primarily be one of Johnny’s pupils going forward, instead of Daniel’s. If that’s the case, there’s an even greater motivation for Robby and Miguel to be uneasy about each other.

If they’re both training under Johnny more so than Daniel, Miguel’s status as Eagle Fang’s top student and Johnny’s most skilled protégé may no longer be undisputed. Robby could be in that conversation as well, which could be a problem for Miguel, considering that he’s trained with Johnny longer than anyone. The tension that this could create would likely be in play when the rematch happens.

Who Will Most Likely Win The Robby vs. Miguel Rematch

Miguel Has The Best Chance Of Winning, But It’s Not A Sure Thing

With Miguel and Robby apparently on a collision course at some point in Cobra Kai season 6, it’s worth wondering which character will be victorious. Miguel winning wouldn’t be surprising, as he did have Robby at his mercy during their season 5 battle. At the time, this felt like a definitive answer to the Robby vs. Miguel debate, but the promise of another fight indicates otherwise. Admittedly, the fight was closely contested, which means that this match-up wouldn’t necessarily have the same outcome every time it happened. Because of that, Robby winning isn’t unfeasible.

It shouldn’t be forgotten that Robby is naturally talented. Despite experiencing less training, Robby held an advantage over Miguel during all All Valley finals. The injury he sustained from Hawk hampering his efforts created the impression that Miguel’s victory was unearned. Similarly, his win over Miguel was also marred since Miguel had visibly restrained himself from delivering the knock-out blow. This history would make a clean win for Robby more meaningful, in a way that wouldn’t distort their capabilities. After all, Robby did demonstrate in season 1 that he’s technically capable of besting Miguel.

Even so, the odds are still in Miguel’s favor. Miguel beat Robby fairly in season 5, and there’s no evidence to suggest he won’t do it again. What might make it more challenging the next time is that they will have the shared benefit of Johnny’s training in season 6. Whether that’ll make a difference, though, remains to be seen.

Will Robby & Miguel’s Rematch Predict The Sekai Taikai’s Winner?

The Best Fighter Of The Two Has The Best Odds At Winning The Sekai Taikai

Robby and Miguel during the school fight in Cobra Kai season 3

Robby and Miguel’s respective reputations in the series speak to the level of significance their supposed rematch could hold. In fact, it could even serve as an early clue as to who will emerge triumphant when the Sekai Taikai concludes. Miguel is likely the favorite to win it all, but that perception could quickly change if Robby beats him. If not, Miguel could solidify his place as the dojo’s most competent fighter. Or, if they’re fighting over positioning (as previously speculated), the result could be more than symbolic and actually help them win the Sekai Taikai outright.

Alternatively, the rematch could serve as a misdirect, which is why it may not be the best accurate indicator of who will take home the championship. Theoretically, Cobra Kai could propel the loser of the rematch to the finals in a surprising of events. This would soften the blow of the rivalry loss and pave the way for each of the two characters to get a memorable victory in Cobra Kai’s closing chapter.
