Fans of the cult anime series, Panty & Stocking with Gartelbelt series should be overjoyed now that Studio Trigger announced a new project for the franchise. This supernatural and cartoonish series is perfect for the studio given the unique series Trigger has produced amazingly.

The series was already confirmed on July 2, 2023, but not much information has been revealed since. Now though, a post from Trigger’s official X account confirms Panty & Stocking with Garterbelt’s return, and the people needed to make it happen have been brought on board.

On the first day of Anime Expo 2024, Studio Trigger confirmed the project as well as the staff and cast, but unfortunately, there was no confirmed release date or window. Fans of the series originally created by Gainax will be happy to see that Trigger, which was founded by two of Gainax’s former employees, including Panty & Stocking‘s director Hiroyuki Imaishi, has resurrected the show, and that’s in good hands.

Fans might have waited a long time, but it seems that it was worth it as the show is in good hands. Studio Trigger’s best anime include hits such as Kill la Kill, Cyberpunk: Edgerunners, and Delicious in Dungeon. The director, Hiroyuki Imaishi, is an experienced veteran with proven results, directing the highly praised Gurren Lagann, Kill la Kill, and the first Panty & Stocking series that fans have come to love. The director of Darling in the Franxx and a character designer of the Evangelion Rebuild movies will serve as the lead character designer, while Shigeto Koyama will be the art designer. Interestingly, one of the industry’s most revolutionary animators, Yoh Yoshinori, will be involved but as a “special specialist”.

It will be interesting to see how one of the most irreverent and censored series of the 2010s will fare in the contemporary anime landscape, but fans of Panty & Stocking With Gartebelt can at least rest assured that the series is still in the hands of its original creators.
