Stranger Things season 5 poster art imagines the epic resurrection of Joseph Quinn’s Eddie Munson. Created by Matt and Ross Duffer, the hit Netflix horror fantasy series returned for season 4 in 2022, bringing back the show’s beloved core cast of characters while introducing a number of newcomers. Quinn’s Eddie quickly became a fan favorite after his introduction in episode 1, but the character heroically met his end in the season 4 finale while distracting Vecna (Jamie Campbell Bower). As Stranger Things season 5 approaches, it’s been unclear whether Eddie could return.

A poster shared by artist Sonnyfive on Instagram now imagines one possible resurrection scenario for Eddie in Stranger Things season 5. Check out the art below:

The art features Eddie, his guitar in-hand, emerging from the fiery ground of the Upside Down. It doesn’t appear that the beloved character is entirely unchanged, however, as his monstrous hands would suggest that he’s undergoing some kind of dark transformation.

Eddie Will Likely Appear In Stranger Things Season 5

What Joseph Quinn Has Said

After his emotional sacrifice in the Stranger Things season 4 finale, Eddie’s potential return to the show has been a major question mark. Quinn himself recently shared a response, however, that hints audiences may not have seen the last of his character. In a recent interview with ET, Quinn teased Eddie’s Stranger Things return by saying he “might have that feeling too” when a reporter expressed optimism about his character appearing in the new episodes. “Or maybe I don’t,” he quickly added, leaving the mystery alive.

While Quinn’s comment can’t be taken as a definitive statement that Eddie will return, it’s the most obvious indication yet that viewers will see the character again. What remains unclear, however, is how the character could return. At this point, a full-on resurrection seems like a stretch, given how it would cheapen Eddie’s sacrifice in the season 4 finale and derail what has the makings of an emotional arc for Dustin (Gaten Matarazzo).

Stranger Things Season 5 Set Photos Prove It’s Taking The Right Approach To Eddie’s Death

Stranger Things season 5 set photos have already surfaced, and they prove the final episodes are taking the right approach to Eddie Munson’s death.

In order to avoid repeating what was ultimately a somewhat cheap fake-out with Hopper’s “death” in the season 3 finale, a flashback featuring Eddie seems like the most likely way Quinn will return to the Stranger Things cast in season 5. This way, audiences will get to spend a little more time with a beloved character without any negative impact on the show’s stakes or emotional arcs. Exactly what Stranger Things season 5 has in store for viewers remains something of a mystery, but it certainly wouldn’t be surprising to see Eddie return in some form.
