This article contains spoilers from House of the Dragon season 2, episode 3, “The Burning Mill.”

Game of Thrones star Hannah Waddingham jokes about her septa outfit being worn by Emma D’Arcy in House of the Dragon. Waddingham played Septa Unella in Game of Thrones, a character best remembered for repeatedly ringing a bell and shouting, “Shame!” as she forced a naked Cersei Lannister (Lena Headey) to walk through the streets of King’s Landing. D’Arcy’s House of the Dragon character, Rhaenyra Targaryen, wore the outfit to disguise herself as a septa so she could speak to Alicent Hightower (Olivia Cooke) in King’s Landing without being noticed.

House of the Dragon shared an image on Instagram of Rhaenyra’s disguise from episode 3, which led Waddingham to poke fun at the Targaryen queen wearing her outfit. Check out the post and Waddingham’s comment below:

Waddingham not only jokes about Rhaenyra wearing her outfit and demanding that she take it off, but also includes a hashtag that directly references Septa Unella’s most iconic scene with Cersei from the Game of Thrones season 5 finale.

Rhaenyra’s Septa Disguise Is Part Of The Best Scene Yet In House Of The Dragon Season 2

The Stakes Are High For Rhaenyra, Alicent, And All Of Westeros

Rhaenyra disguising herself as a septa and walking through the streets of King’s Landing, a place controlled by people who hate her and who deny her claim to the Iron Throne, made her feel like she was in more danger than in any House of the Dragon season 2 scene so far. It also spoke volumes about Rhaenyra’s merits as a leader. She risks a great deal speaking to Alicent in person to try and avoid all-out war, unlike King Aegon II Targaryen who gleefully welcomes the prospect of war.

House Of The Dragon Officially Sets Up Rhaenyra’s Big Season 3 Story & I’m So Excited About It

A Daemon scene in House of the Dragon season 2, episode 3, has cleverly set up one of Rhaenyra’s future arcs. Here’s what we know from the book.

Having former friends Rhaenyra and Alicent speak again after so much betrayal and tragedy befalling their families since their last meeting added another layer to make the scene even more compelling. There was also an emotional vulnerability to Rhaenyra that she rarely reveals, as a part of her also just wanted to know if her father, King Viserys Targaryen, loved her, and to understand why he changed his mind. For a brief moment, Rhaenyra was just a heartbroken daughter seeking answers from the woman who used to be her best friend.

While it was a relief for Rhaenyra to know that her father loved her and kept his promise to the end, Alicent’s refusal to admit her mistake was heartbreaking as she knew she and the other Greens had gone too far and there’s no turning back now. This scene was powerful on an emotional level and brought the heart of the series back to Rhaenyra and Alicent. It also cemented that there’s no hope of preventing all-out war, with battles on par with Game of Thrones now on the horizon, in a scene made possible by a septa outfit.
