As one era of Spider-Man approaches its end, the next could be deadly for the Wallcrawler. In an all-new epic launching later this year, fans could experience more than one death of the Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man.

Not much has been revealed beyond a cryptic teaser Marvel that released on the official Spider-Man X page. The new 10-part event will be titled The 8 Deaths of Spider-Man, and it will be written by Joe Kelly and Justina Ireland and drawn by Ed McGuinness, Gleb Melnikov and more.

The teaser image sees the silhouette of eight gravestones against a stark red sky. It’s unclear whether the titular eight deaths refer to Spider-Man himself dying eight times, or if he will suffer the loss of eight people close to him. Either way, Spidey’s patented Parker Luck means that it’s not going to be fun for Peter.

Amazing Spider-Man #58 teaser

This September, writer Zeb Wells and artist John Romita Jr. will begin the final arc of their Amazing Spider-Man run that began in April 2022. While it’s currently unknown how long this arc will last, Marvel has revealed that Spidey’s final showdown against Tombstone will begin with Amazing Spider-Man #58. Tombstone has been a major player since the beginning of this Amazing Spider-Man series. The two have been at odds since Spider-Man foiled a plot by the crime boss in the series’ first issue. Tombstone had Peter beaten and tricked him into attacking a rival gang member. Spider-Man managed to reach a stalemate by threatening to tell the other criminals of New York City that he and Tombstone were working together.

Tombstone’s daughter, Janice Lincoln aka the Beetle, has also been a major player in Spidey’s latest series, most notably in the epic Gang War event that threatened to destroy New York City. After every gang in the Big Apple battled to take over the city, Janice led an army of criminals in a final showdown against Madame Masque. Tombstone himself was shot and nearly died before teaming up with Spider-Man to stop the chaos. In the end, Tombstone emerged victorious as the new boss of New York City’s criminal underworld, and now he’s out to get his final revenge on Spider-Man.

Spider-Man’s Latest Epic Caps Off 2 Years of Heartache

Peter Parker Has Suffered A Lot in His Current Series

Spider-Man’s ongoing battles against Tombstone are just the tip of the iceberg in terms of what he’s suffered over the past couple of years. Wells and Romita Jr.’s Amazing Spider-Man started with the shocking revelation that Peter and Mary Jane had split up. Now, MJ has a new partner named Paul, and she’s gained powers of her own and has become the superhero known as Jackpot. While she and Peter were initially distant, they’ve started to become friends and adjust to their new dynamic.

That was all threatened when Peter was infected with the sins of Norman Osborn and became evil. After trying to kill Paul, Spidey was seemingly cured. However, Norman Osborn’s evil Green Goblin personality has re-emerged, and he installed a trigger in Peter’s brain that recently saw him revert to his villainous Spider-Goblin persona. As if that weren’t all bad enough, Spider-Man has also had to deal with his clone, Ben Reilly, turning evil, a demonic debt collector, and Ms. Marvel dying in his arms.

Spidey is sure to suffer more before his final battle with Tombstone concludes this fall. And while fans might hope that the Wallcrawler might find some happiness after all he’s endured, Marvel’s upcoming epic The 8 Deaths of Spider-Man may mean that Spider-Man’s suffering has only just begun.
