Warning! This article contains SPOILERS for The Acolyte episode 6.

The Acolyte episode 6 has set up a surprising twist for its highly anticipated upcoming episode. The Acolyte episode 6 showed the aftermath of the Jedi massacre on Khofar, as well as Master Sol (Lee Jung-jae)’s reaction to losing his entire team. Audiences got to see where Qimir (Manny Jacinto) took Osha (Amandla Stenberg), but it also showcased how quickly Sol was able to deduce that Mae had taken Osha’s place. While it seemed inevitable that Sol (or the Jedi in general) would discover Mae’s real identity, it’s a little surprising it happened so quickly.

The Acolyte episode 3 showed a flashback that revealed Osha and Mae’s origin story. This included showing how a fire took the lives of the twin’s entire family, the witches of Brendok. The Acolyte episode 3 focused solely on Osha’s perspective of the night Mae started the fire, though trailer footage and context clues from the show indicate that there’s a lot of missing information about how the fire on Brendok started and spread. Episode 7 has been expected to return to this memory, but now, there’s a twist to who will tell the tale.

We All Assumed The Acolyte Episode 7 Was From Mae’s Point Of View

The Focus on Mae and Osha Made This Seem Likely

The Acolyte showrunner Leslye Headland has promised that one of the episodes of The Acolyte will pay homage to the 1950 film Rashomon. Rashomon is famous for pioneering the technique of multiple characters providing their perspectives on a series of events in a subjective and highly personal manner. This means that different perspectives and opinions can be formed based on whose perspective is told—all of which may have pieces of the truth. It was theorized that after receiving Osha’s perspective in The Acolyte episode 3, the perspective would switch to Mae in a future episode.

Considering much of The Acolyte has been about the duology of the twins Mae and Osha, it seemed natural that after getting Osha’s perspective, audiences would also get Mae’s perspective of what actually happened on Brendok. It’s known that there was a battle between the Jedi stationed on Brendok, as was seen in trailer footage, so audiences will likely get to see this different perspective in The Acolyte episode 7. What happened on Brendok is largely unknown, since Osha’s perspective was so limited by her location in the witches’ fortress.

The Acolyte Sets Up Sol As Episode 7’s Unexpected Narrator

Episode 6 Ended With Sol Getting Ready to Tell Mae Everything

The Acolyte episode 6 ended with Master Sol figuring out that Mae had taken Osha’s place. Sol promises not to hurt Mae, but that he needs her help to find Qimir and Osha; though, before that, he wants to tell her everything that happened on Brendok. This sets up the other flashback from Brendok to be told from the Jedi perspective, with particular attention paid to Sol’s experiences. While it’s a surprising change, it’s not exactly unwelcome, as Sol can finally tell his own story. No matter what, it seems like audiences will get answers in The Acolyte episode 7.

The Acolyte episode 6 is now streaming. New episodes premiere Tuesdays at 9PM EST on Disney+.
