Marvel has announced a new incarnation of Avengers Academy, as its latest, greatest generation of heroes takes center stage. Avengers Academy: Marvel Voices will be the next step in the formative path of characters such as Kid Juggernaut, Red Goblin, and more, on their way becoming the future stars of the Marvel Universe.

In an announcement first shared by AIPT, the latest class of Avengers Academy superheroes was unveiled, and the line-up is stacked with some of the most exciting Marvel creations of the past several years. With this set of characters, the upcoming Marvel Unlimited series has just jumped to the top of many fans’ to-read pile.

In addition to the latest incarnation of Juggernaut, and the heroic grandson of Norman Osborn, the team will include: Blade’s daughter Bloodline, the mutant Escapade, the hero known as “Captain America of the Railways,” and the Inhuman fan favorites Moon Girl and Devil Dinosaur.

In their announcement of Avengers Academy: Marvel Voices, Marvel set expectations high, by offering a tantalizing plot synopsis:

The next generation of heroes is on the rise…but what they become – and what they will face – will shock you. School’s now in session – and already under attack!

By design, this leaves a great deal of room open for fan interpretation, and Marvel faithful can expect anticipation to continue rising significantly as the debut of the series approaches. “What they become” is, of course, immediately going to pique astute readers’ curiosity – as one would expect them to eventually become Avengers. The fact that there might be a different future in store for them will certainly keep readers guessing.

Similarly, “what they will face” – as opposed to who – is nearly as intriguing. It is possible Marvel is going to force its youngest, most inexperienced hero team into a confrontation with a force much larger than anything they are prepared for. Of course, Marvel will want to keep the stakes high for its latest Avengers Academy run; the reputations of comics’ most beloved superheroes are forged under the most extreme circumstances, and the new Academy squad will be no exception.

Kid Juggernaut Is Destined To Be A Fixture In The Marvel Universe

Though he is the newest of the Avengers Academy characters, Kid Juggernaut has immediately generated a lot of buzz, following his debut in the Marvel Universe. Justin Jin reclaimed the powers of the Gem of Cytorrak, which had been stolen from his family – establish him as a vital new force in Marvel Comics, while also rectifying one of the murkiest aspects of Juggernaut lore. The character’s continued prominence makes it clear that the publisher has big plans for him – and so far, Kid Juggernaut has justified that push, proving to be a dynamic, exciting hero.

New as he might be, Kid Juggernaut already feels fated to rise to the top of Marvel Comics and remain a fixture for a long time. In a way, the character is a perfect synthesis of classic and contemporary Marvel; by putting the history of Juggernaut in a new context, and making the character about more than Cain Marko, the company may very well have set a precedent for its next slate of future protagonists. Whatever the case may be, Avengers Academy: Marvel Voices will continue to center Kid Juggernaut, who can be expected to thrive in the spotlight.

Red Goblin Is A Complex Legacy Character With A Ton Of Potential

Normie Osborn, Currently Starring In Red Goblin Ongoing Series

Like Kid Juggernaut, Red Goblin is a young heroic character who taps into the complexities of Marvel’s past, while remixing and reimagining the possibilities of its future. Normie Osborn – son of Harry, grandson of Norman Osborn, and thus a third-generation Goblin – and his Red Goblin symbiote suit are, naturally, steeped in the lore of the Spider-Man franchise, but the character has truly come into prominence as his own hero within the past few years. Avengers Academy: Marvel Voices will continue that trend, by putting him on the most engaging new team the company has to offer.

Just like his Goblin predecessors, and like any symbiote-wearer, Normie Osborn has struggled at times with his worst impulses, fighting an internal battle to stay on the hero side of the Marvel Universe equation. While that tension could play into Avengers Academy, the series also presents an opportunity to firmly establish Red Goblin as an unequivocally heroic character. Again, just as with his teammate Justin Jin this would present another chance to engage with Marvel history while also pushing the character of Normie Osborn forward in a satisfying way.

Avengers Academy’s Newest Heroes Will Have Ample Opportunity To Define Themselves

The Next Generation Of Marvel Voices

Kid Juggernaut and Red Goblin are just two stand-outs among an Avengers Academy squad packed with characters that are ready to prove they have staying power in the Marvel Universe. Following her starring role in the company’s Blood Hunt crossover event, Blade’s daughter Bloodline will be ready to forge her own heroic path outside of her father’s influence. Aaron Fischer, meanwhile – the “Captain America of the Railways,” – will have an opportunity to further solidfy his own heroic identity in the series, perhaps even adopting a new moniker all his own, independent of the Captain America legacy.

The mutant known as Escapade is another relatively new debut, having first appeared in Marvel Voices: Pride; she is perhaps the character who will surprise readers the most in Avengers Academy, as she proves she is on the level with her talented teammates. Rounding out the roster, Moon Girl and Devil Dinosaur are a perfect final addition to the team, bringing both comedic sensibility and potential for glorious action. In all, Marvel’s impending Avengers Academy series will be a thrill ride for fans who want the next generation of Marvel’s top protagonists to show what they are made of.
