Picking up the story of the titular Axel Foley after 30 years, the film sends the protagonist on another action-packed journey, this time as he tries to save his daughter from a violent threat, meanwhile uncovering a conspiracy. Beverly Hills Cop: Axel F has a cast led by Eddie Murphy and Judge Reinhold, with supporting actors including Kevin Bacon, Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Taylour Paige, Mark Pellegrino, Bronson Pinchot, and John Ashton.

Now, the Rotten Tomatoes score for Beverly Hills Cop: Axel F has been revealed. At the time of writing, the film has a 69% Tomatometer. This score is subject to change, as there at 65 reviews at the time of writing and the movie was released to Netflix today. As such, Beverly Hills Cop: Axel F is also yet to have an audience score.

How Does Beverly Hills Cop: Axel F Compare With Its Predecessors?

Before the first release of the Beverly Hills Cop: Axel F Rotten Tomatoes score, Murphy was vocal about the changes that had been made between the third and fourth franchise installments. According to the actor, the biggest problem with 1994’s Beverly Hills Cop III was that it had a weak villain, thinning out the conflict in the film. Attempting to repair those past mistakes, Axel F included a strong villain in Bacon, who was hyped up by Murphy and other actors in advance of the movie.

So far, it seems like these updates have paid off in the reception of Beverly Hills Cop: Axel F. The 69% Tomatometer positions the film as the second-highest rated in the franchise, behind only 1984’s Beverly Hills Cop. It is a vast improvement from the third film, which received a paltry 11% on Rotten Tomatoes. Beverly Hills Cop II also received lackluster reviews, as it had a rotten score with a 46% overall.

The audience scores for the Beverly Hills Cop: Axel F movies have not been positive since the first movie, so it will be interesting to see if Axel F manages to swing the series back into the good graces of viewers as well. Beverly Hills Cop: Axel F releases on Netflix on July 3, so while it does not have the opportunity to show its success at the box office, the action movie can aspire to top the Netflix Global Top 10 during its first week on the platform. Even though audiences have had to wait three decades for this follow-up, it seems like the hard work from the Beverly Hills Cop: Axel F team is paying off so far.
