Resident Alien season 3 ended with an incredibly heroic act that in other circumstances could have meant self-sacrifice, but the showrunner has teased that one character’s actions may all have been for nothing. With Resident Alien season 4 now confirmed thanks to USA Network inheriting the show from Syfy, the show’s leader, Chris Sheridan, has the opportunity to add to the story after the tantalizing loose threads of Resident Alien season 3’s ending. Almost every character has a unique story arc coming, but they’ll all inevitably converge by the time season 4 ends.

There’s one member of the Resident Alien cast who came very close to meeting her end during the season 3 finale. Although they ultimately escaped their self-imposed fate, Sheridan may be planning to thrust them right back into the action, as with all the other residents of Patience, Colorado. With Harry and Bridget trapped in a cell aboard the Grey Aliens’ Star Wars-esque moon base, the story is down a hero and needs someone else to step up once again.

Resident Alien is a quirky and charming sci-fi show that has many connections to the genre as a whole, including some incredible cameo appearances.

Resident Alien Showrunner Suggests D’arcy Saving The Hawthornes’ Baby Was Not A Permanent Solution

D’arcy’s actions may be rendered inert

In an interview with TV Line, Chris Sheridan addressed the potential fate of Kate and Ben’s recently-rescued baby. Speaking of Alice Wetterlund’s D’arcy Bloom saving the abducted infant in Resident Alien season 3, episode 8, “Homecoming,” Sheridan said, “We don’t know yet what’s going to happen with this baby, but I would imagine that the Greys don’t want to just let anything go without a fight.” The implication here is that the Greys will go out of their way to reclaim the youngest Hawthorne, although it’s unclear what they diminutive extraterrestrials find so fascinating about the baby.

Of course, Resident Alien has the ability to switch rapidly between irreverent humor, action-packed scenes, and devastatingly emotional moments. So, D’arcy stepping in to save the day was always likely to be a temporary solution. Having said that, it doesn’t make the short-lived success any easier to bear, even if another obstacle was pretty much always going to be nearby. Everyone being safe and sound doesn’t make for an exciting story in a show like Resident Alien, so there needs to be plenty of risk involved for everyone involved.

D’arcy’s Efforts All Being For Nothing Could Mean Disaster For Her Character

In the same TV Line interview, Sheridan describes D’arcy as “Insecure to her core,” and says she has spent her entire life seeking validation from various sources. Resident Alien season 3 ends with D’arcy more at peace with herself than she’s ever been shown before. Her selfless actions in saving Baby Hawthorne acted as a sort of salve for all the failures and shortcomings she feels she’s experienced throughout her life. If Resident Alien season 4 undoes her heroism by having the Greys immediately abduct the baby again, then this would be a major blow to D’arcy’s personal growth.

Sheridan even foreshadows the fact that D’arcy’s journey to self-acceptance isn’t going to be an easy road. He’s confirmed that she’s, “Not cured,” and that she could take, “One step forward and two steps back.” In other words, she may have briefly found meaning by saving a defenseless baby and escaping with her life, but her hard work could be undone in the blink of an eye. If so, D’arcy would understandably be devastated and be in a worse position than when she started.

The Baby Isn’t The Only Resident Alien Character Still In Danger Of Being Abducted

Kate Hawthorne still has her chip

Sheridan also suggests that Kate will continue to be abducted, likely because she chose not to have her chip removed – unlike her husband, Mayor Ben. At the end of Resident Alien season 2, it was revealed that the Greys stole Kate’s fetus directly from her womb, and have been continuing to abduct her. Kate’s choice to keep her chip installed means she could be abducted again every night, but it’s currently unclear if the Greys also installed a chip in the baby. If so, both mother and child could find themselves back aboard the Earth-orbiting lunar ship right away.

9 Burning Questions For Resident Alien Season 4 & What We Think The Answers Will Be

Although Resident Alien season 4 hasn’t yet been confirmed, the next installment of the Syfy show needs to answer questions posed by season 3.

Kate knows now that she’s been getting abducted, but the fact she’s been brought into orbit and returned to Earth by the Greys means she doesn’t maintain the memories she forms while aboard their ship. So, she doesn’t have the upper hand that someone like Asta or D’arcy may have – who both remember their trip to the Greys’ ship. Therefore, Kate will need to find a creative way of taking down the Greys if she’s going to do so, and all while making sure the other innocent babies aboard aren’t harmed in Resident Alien season 4.
