This post contains a preview for Star Wars: Inquisitors #1

Star Wars’ new Inquisitors series promises to reveal the “profound” commitment and truth of the dark side according to the Grand Inquisitor. Once a member of the Jedi Order, the Grand Inquisitor was corrupted and turned to the dark side by Palpatine with the promise of knowledge and great power. To that end, there’s no better way for Marvel’s new and canonical Inquisitors series to start than with one of the Grand Inquisitor’s most important missions for the Empire.

As seen in the new preview for Inquisitors #1 from Rodney Barnes and Ramon Rosanas, the Grand Inquisitor is on the hunt for a new Jedi survivor known as Tensu Run. Having somehow survived the Jedi Purge that was Order 66, there are only a few remaining Jedi left in the galaxy who pose a threat to the Empire. However, it seems Tensu Run is dangerous enough to warrant the personal attention of the Grand Inquisitor himself. The new preview pages from Star Wars and Marvel can be viewed below:

Seeking answers by any means necessary, it certainly looks as though the Grand Inquisitor is more than willing to massacre an entire village should he not receive the information he’s looking for regarding Tensu Run. As such, it certainly highlights his strong commitment to the dark side and the ways of the Sith whom he now calls master, an ideology to which he was not long ago opposed as a Jedi Knight.

The Grand Inquisitor Is Deeply Committed To The Dark Side

He’s Abandoned His Jedi Past

As revealed in this new preview alone, the Grand Inquisitor has become a true believer in the dark side and the elimination of any surviving Jedi Knights still living during the Dark Times of the Empire’s rule. He truly has abandoned his Jedi past, having once been a member of the Jedi Temple guard on Coruscant. However, his desire for forbidden knowledge in the Jedi Archives made him bitter toward the Jedi, something Palpatine discovered and manipulated before Order 66 had even taken place by promising the Grand Inquisitor a leading role and full access to the Archives should he agree to serve him.

Now, the Grand Inquisitor is on the hunt, leading the rest of the Empire’s Inquisitors across the galaxy in search of Jedi. However, Tensu Run seems to be of critical importance to the Empire as a priority target. As such, it will be interesting to learn who this new Jedi Knight is and what they managed to accomplish during the Dark Times before his probable demise in this new Inquisitors series.

His Role As Narrator Is Fascinating

These few preview pages alone do tease some very exciting things about the Grand Inquisitor. Hopefully, the full series will reveal new insights into his character as a key Star Wars villain between the prequel and original trilogies. As such, it’s also fascinating to see that he’ll be serving as the series’ narrator, allowing for his unique perspective and commitment to the dark side to be shown to a much greater degree than has been previously shown in the Star Wars canon.

Star Wars: Inquisitors #1 is on sale July 3rd from Marvel Comics.
