International fast food restaurant, McDonald’s, introduces a “Special Grade” garlic sauce on Tuesday, July 9, inspired by the popular manga and anime series, Jujutsu Kaisen. The sauce, available only until supplies last, is described as sweet and tangy, with a garlic and soy sauce flavor profile, and each container will include one of eight characters from the hit series, including Satoru Gojo, Yuji Itadori, and the villainous Sukuna.

Named after the strongest and deadliest Cursed Spirits that plague the world of Jujutsu Kaisen, this new, limited-edition sauce is not the only reason why fans of the anime should be interested.

McDonald’s latest collaboration includes a free 30-day Crunchyroll trial subscription with each order containing their new special sauce, which comes standard with all McNuggets orders, or can be added to any meal on the McDonald’s app.

Gege Akutami’s Jujutsu Kaisen follows the exploits of a squad of sorcerers who battle and exorcise spirits born from cursed energy. The main character, Yuji Itadori, is a normal teenager who becomes a jujutsu sorcerer after consuming the severed fingers of an ancient evil spirt named Sukuna, and serves as his host body. The 2018 manga and 2020 Jujutsu Kaisen anime series are a global phenomenon, yielding brand collaborations such as this one with Mc Donald’s, inspiring a tribute song on Megan thee Stallion’s new album, and earning over 10 awards at the 2024 Crunchyroll Anime Awards, including Anime of the Year.
