What Happened In Suicide Squad Isekai So Far?

DC’s Most Dangerous Team Is Stranded in Another World

The series starts with Harley and the Joker rampaging and causing destruction all around the city, but elite soldiers led by Katana ambush them. While the Joker manages to escape, Harley is captured and taken to a facility where she finds other criminals. The group consisting of Harley, Deadshot, Peacemaker, Clayface, and King Shark wake up to find themselves in a helicopter, and Amanda Walker reveals their mission of protecting a research facility. As punishment for escaping or not complying, the bombs in their necks would be detonated. Furthermore, unless the bomb receives a signal every 72 hours, it will detonate.

The group’s luck runs out when the helicopter crashes and the team realizes they have actually been sent to another world inhabited by fantastic creatures. They find themselves amid a war between two groups. Monsters attack the Suicide Squad but are easily defeated, but the team is then imprisoned by a human faction, wary of these strange people. There, they meet Rick Flag, who reveals he was sent there a while ago but was unfortunately captured. After realizing that the bomb would detonate if they didn’t go to the facility, they took over the prison.

Meanwhile, Cecil, one of the commanders of the kingdom, is on his way to negotiate with the Suicide Squad after the princess pleads with him to help them. After being granted an audience with the queen, it is revealed that the evil Empire was being led by escaped convicts previously sent by Amanda. To make up for the blunder, the Suicide Squad is tasked with taking down the commander of the Empire in exchange for freedom. It turns out the commander is Ratcatcher, and his hate for Deadshot leads him to attack the squad mercilessly, but he is overwhelmed. Just as he is about to be killed, Katana swoops in and rescues him.

Suicide Squad Isekai Episode #4 Will Introduce New Characters and Focus on Worldbuilding

Image from Suicide Squad Isekai anime opening shows Katana crouched on a tall slanted building with her sword positioned behind her as she looks off to the distance.

One issue with the premiere of Suicide Squad Isekai was that it did not focus enough on the fantasy world the characters were sent to, instead putting the spotlight on the dynamics inside the team. Hopefully, starting with episode #4, the series will begin to develop its setting more, as no isekai can be good without a decent amount of worldbuilding.

Although the series is scheduled for 10 episodes and doesn’t have much room for an intricate plot, the story so far seems interesting. The mystery surrounding why Katana and Ratcatcher are allied with monsters is exciting, and the fact that the two are obviously intimidated by the emperor teases the debut of a new powerful character, which will perhaps be shown in episode #4.

Don’t miss Suicide Squad Isekai episode #4 when it airs on July 3, 2024.
