WARNING! Potential spoilers ahead for Transformers #10The ranks of the Autobots in the Energon Universe continue to grow, as the preview for Transformers #10 reveals how one surprise hero survived the centuries to appear in the present day. The previous issue ended with the arrival of Beachcomber, saving Spike Witwicky at the last moment from being captured by the Decepticons.

In a preview released by Skybound Entertainment, Transformers #10, readers witness more of the the Autobot/Decepticon battle from previous issues, as Beachcomber is shown being thrown from the Ark by Skywarp.

Beachcomber winds up landing on the moon, where he spends the next million years hanging around until the 1969 moon landing. From there, he hitches a ride on the shuttle back to Earth, where Beachcomber then finds his way back to the crash-landed Ark.

The preview cuts off right before Beachcomber reaches the Ark, which raises all sorts of intriguing questions. Fans already know that the Autobots and Decepticons won’t reawaken until Jetfire arrives in the present-day, so what Beachcomber did do when he found his comatose friends is a question waiting to be answered. Furthermore, what Beachcomber has been up to in the decades he’s spent on Earth will have to be revealed. As far as readers are aware, no one on Earth has ever seen a Transformer before the Autobots and Decepticons were reawakened on the Ark.

Beachcomber makes for an interesting addition to the Autobot ranks, and the series seems to be setting up a bond between Beachcomber and Spike. Beachcomber rescued the young Witwicky after he was taken by Astrotrain in Transformers #9, and Jorge Corona’s cover to the next issue implies the two will become close as the storyline progresses. Carly has already been taken under the wing of Arcee to train as her “iron apprentice,” so this new era of Transformers has been making some interesting moves in how it incorporates the human characters into the story.

The Energon Universe Continues To Expand The Autobots’ Numbers On Earth

Transformers‘ creative team has been smart in their judicious use of Transformers characters in the Energon Universe, keeping the roster contained so that each character gets their time to shine. This limitation also makes each new appearance all the more special, as it makes it all the more exciting to see who will show up next. Considering the franchise has hundreds of characters to choose from, Skybound likely won’t have any trouble filling out the ranks of Autobots and Decepticons alike. With the arrival of Beachcomber, the cast of Transformers continues to grow in the Energon Universe.
