The first trailer for Cobra Kai season 6, part 1 has been released, and it confirms my worst fears about Daniel LaRusso and Johnny Lawrence’s new dojo. Cobra Kai’s final season will be split into three parts, with the first five episodes releasing July 18 on Netflix. Assuming the Sekai Taikai tournament will be saved for the final batch of episodes, I expect the first part of the season to focus on the training the “Miyagi-Fang” students are going through.

Cobra Kai season 5’s ending saw Daniel and Johnny finally putting their differences aside and, alongside Chozen, preparing their students for the Sekai Taikai qualifiers. Both Cobra Kai and “Miyagi-Fang” have been selected for the global karate competition, meaning the stakes are higher than ever going into Cobra Kai season 6. In theory, all main characters should now be working together ahead of the international tournament. However, it seems that rivalries will be part of Cobra Kai until the end.

Cobra Kai Season 6’s Trailer Reveals Daniel & Johnny Are Still Arguing Over Their Dojo’s Direction

Daniel and Johnny are not on the same page.

The latest Cobra Kai season 6 trailer makes it clear that Daniel and Johnny will struggle to lead a dojo together. While this is not the first time Daniel and Johnny have tried to work together against Kreese, the end of season 5 made it seem like things would be different now. Daniel, Chozen, and Johnny were expected to combine their styles and prepare their students for the Sekai Taikai, to which they were invited after performing well in the demonstration. However, the Karate Kid rivals are still not on the same page about the direction of their dojo.

In the trailer, Daniel says that using both styles is the biggest strength of their dojo and asks Johnny not to jeopardize things. In another moment, Johnny asks Daniel when he has to run things over by LaRusso, to which Daniel answers “Since we don’t know what we’re going up against.” The trailer even teases a possible fight between Johnny and Daniel. After five seasons of arguments and misunderstandings, I was hoping that Daniel and Johnny were finally going to make things work in season 6. Sadly, that doesn’t seem to be the case.

I Hope Daniel & Johnny Don’t Become Rivals Again After Their Season 5 Progress

Cobra Kai has used this trick too many times already.

Daniel and Johnny arguing in Cobra Kai season 6

Arguments between two different sensei over the best strategy for their students are expected, but the tone of Cobra Kai season 6’s trailer makes me worried that Daniel and Johnny’s partnership will fall apart again. Although it is always fun to see the original Karate Kid characters as rivals, Cobra Kai has done this routine too many times already. Johnny Lawrence and Daniel LaRusso came close to leaving their rivalry behind several times throughout the series, only for a misunderstanding or a heated argument to bring things back to square one.

1 Movie Reference In Cobra Kai Teases The Perfect Way To End The Show

The perfect way for Cobra Kai season 6 to end Johnny and Daniel’s story is underscored by its references to a specific movie from the 1980s.

I would be very disappointed if part of Cobra Kai season 6 was dedicated to yet another series of arguments between Daniel and Johnny. While it makes sense for them not to be on the same page every time due to their different karate philosophies, this should not be used for more drama between the characters. The most exciting thing about Cobra Kai’s final season is precisely to see Daniel, Johnny, and Chozen joining forces to win a global karate tournament. At this point, any fights among themselves would feel small and anticlimactic.

Will Daniel & Johnny’s New Dojo In Cobra Kai Work?

There is still unresolved business among the students.

Daniel, Johnny, and Chozen’s new dojo has a few challenges to overcome before the Sekai Taiki. Not only do the three sensei have to find balance among themselves, but their students also need to learn how to work together. Granted, most of Daniel and Johnny’s students have trained together before, yet this is the first time all of them are fighting for the same dojo. Even Kyler, who had been a villain since season 1, is now on the same side as the show’s protagonists. Whether having that many students on the team will pay off remains to be seen.

In addition to Daniel and Johnny’s argument, the trailer also teased some tension between Tory and Sam. Although they are now on the same team, Tory says that the fact she is training with Sam’s father does not mean that everything is okay now. Additionally, according to Miguel, he will have to fight Robby again eventually to win it all. I’m interested to see what Cobra Kai will be like now that most of the main characters are training together, but I hope their rivalries are not the focus of the final season 6.
