Marvel Studios is heading back to San Diego Comic Con in July 2024, so several upcoming Marvel Cinematic Universe projects could soon get huge updates. Marvel Studios has been a regular and popular fixture at SDCC since the very beginning of the MCU, when director Jon Favreau and Marvel producer Avi Arad showed up at SDCC 2006 to promote Iron Man. Since then, subsequent Comic Cons have provided the opportunity for Marvel Studios chief Kevin Feige to reveal some of the biggest MCU updates and announcements, and this will continue in 2024.

Traditionally, Marvel Studios’ SDCC presentations take place on the penultimate day of the event, and Deadline reported in June that this will also be the case in 2024. While it’s unclear exactly what will be revealed, Kevin Feige will take the stage at Hall H on July 27 to deliver updates on already-announced MCU projects, and maybe even confirm the development of new Multiverse Saga projects. After the WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes made SDCC 2023 a dull affair, Marvel Studios’ 2024 presentation is one of the most anticipated events of the year.

Agatha All Along’s First Trailer Could Be Released

Agatha All Along Is The MCU’s Next TV Series

While Kathryn Hahn’s WandaVision spinoff was announced prior to SDCC 2022, Kevin Feige took the opportunity two-years-ago to announce a title change for the series. Coven of Chaos saw many more changes before the series was officially titled Agatha All Along. As the MCU’s next TV series releasing on Disney+, Agatha All Along will be a key piece of Feige’s 2024 presentation, and since filming wrapped in February, and a first-look image has been revealed (via Empire), the first trailer for Agatha All Along could be a hit at Comic Con.

Kevin Feige could be joined on stage by Kathryn Hahn, as well as some of Agatha All Along’s exciting new cast. This may include the likes of Patti LuPone, Aubrey Plaza, Sasheer Zamata, and Joe Locke, who has been speculated to be portraying the reincarnated son of the Scarlet Witch, Billy Kaplan. To this end, it’s also possible that Feige could tease Elizabeth Olsen’s much-wanted return to the MCU as Wanda Maximoff’s Scarlet Witch, though a reveal of this magnitude may be kept secret a while longer.

Captain America: Brave New World Could Also Get Its First Trailer

Captain America: Brave New World Wrapped Filming On June 30

Kevin Feige previously confirmed Captain America: Brave New World’s original and controversial title, New World Order, at his last SDCC presentation, but the Anthony Mackie-led sequel has gone through many changes since then. Filming on Brave New World officially wrapped filming on June 30 (via Collider), meaning the movie may be primed to have its first trailer released at SDCC 2024. This could provide a first look at Mackie’s new Captain America, Harrison Ford’s President Ross, and Tim Blake Nelson’s Leader in action.

The first footage from Captain America: Brave New World was revealed by Feige and Mackie at CinemaCon in April, with more shown at CineEurope in June. It’s very likely that SDCC will include a bigger and more public reveal for the upcoming movie, allowing mass audiences to get excited about the project. Brave New World will be the first MCU movie releasing in 2025, so now is the perfect time to start to raise anticipation for Mackie’s big-screen debut as the star-spangled man-with-a-plan.

Thunderbolts* Story Details Can Be Unearthed – Official Sentry Casting & Possible Red Hulk?

Thunderbolts* Has Undergone Changes Since It Was First Announced At SDCC 2022

Since Thunderbolts* isn’t scheduled for release until May 2025, SDCC 2024 may be too early to release a trailer for the upcoming crossover movie. However, there are still many mysteries surrounding Thunderbolts* that can be addressed by Kevin Feige. Most notably, Lewis Pullman could be officially confirmed to be portraying the MCU’s Sentry following Steven Yeun’s departure in January 2023. The Sentry’s debut would seriously alter the power-levels of the MCU, so this would be a very exciting development.

Kevin Feige could also tease the inclusion of some other MCU villains who were curiously left out of the Thunderbolts’ original line-up, revealed at September 2023’s D23 Expo. This could include the likes of Daniel Brühl’s Baron Zemo, Tim Roth’s Abomination, or even the Red Hulk, who is speculated to be joining the MCU soon. This would surely be one of the biggest reveals coming from Marvel Studios’ 2024 presentation, especially if acting legend Harrison Ford is confirmed to be reprising the role of Thaddeus Ross in Thunderbolts*.

Ironheart Could Finally Confirm Mephisto’s MCU Debut

Little Is Known About Marvel Television’s Upcoming Ironheart Series

Despite being on Marvel Studios’ docket for several years, not much is known about the upcoming Ironheart series, but SDCC 2024 could change this. Dominique Thorne first appeared as Riri Williams’ Ironheart in Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, and while she hasn’t been seen or heard from since then, Ironheart’s 2025 release date means the series must be mentioned at this year’s Comic Con. This would also be a fantastic opportunity for Kevin Feige to clear up rumors concerning the upcoming six-part series, most notably regarding the highly-anticipated demon Mephisto.

Mephisto has been heavily rumored to be debuting in the MCU throughout the Multiverse Saga, and Ironheart seems like the most likely place. In October 2023, Marvel filed a listing with the US Copyright Office (via Scarlet Witch Updates) which seemed to confirm Sacha Baron Cohen’s casting in Ironheart as “Mystery Man,” which, following prior speculation of his casting as Mephisto, led many to believe he’d be portraying the iconic Marvel villain. Marvel Studios could use SDCC 2024 to make this casting official, finally paying off years of Mephisto teases.

The Fantastic Four’s Cast Must Appear

The Fantastic Four’s Cast Was Revealed On Valentine’s Day 2024

As one of the MCU’s biggest upcoming movies, it’s a certainty that more will be revealed about The Fantastic Four at SDCC 2024. This could even mark the first collective appearance of the MCU’s official Fantastic Four team, who were confirmed in February. Pedro Pascal, Vanessa Kirby, Joseph Quinn, and Ebon Moss-Bachrach joining Kevin Feige on stage would be a sight to behold, though this may actually be impossible, as The Fantastic Four is set to begin filming in London at the end of July, so the cast may not be available.

Even though the full cast of The Fantastic Four may be unable to appear at SDCC 2024, Feige could still use this opportunity to tease some huge news for the upcoming movie. Kevin Feige recently teased The Fantastic Four’s multiverse storyline and 1960s setting, but he could confirm the details of this at Comic Con. He could also confirm some of The Fantastic Four’s mystery cast members’ roles, finally revealing who John Malkovich, Paul Walter Hauser, and Natasha Lyonne may be playing in the MCU’s Phase 6.

Blade Seriously Needs An SDCC Confidence Boost

Blade’s Tumultuous Production Period Must Be Addressed At SDCC 2024

Since first being announced by Kevin Feige at SDCC 2019, with Mahershala Ali even being brought out onto the stage to be revealed as the project’s lead star, Marvel Studios’ Blade reboot has seen an incredibly tumultuous production period. A long list of writers have passed through the movie, and two directors, Bassam Tariq and Yann Demange, have both departed. With Blade’s scheduled November 2025 release date inching closer, Kevin Feige will likely announce another delay for the movie at SDCC 2024, but could also provide some comfort.

Mahershala Ali and Mia Goth are still attached to appear in the MCU’s Blade reboot, and both have expressed optimism about the direction of the movie, despite its issues. Ali and Goth could make an appearance at SDCC 2024, helping to put viewers’ minds at ease, and ensuring that Marvel Studios is putting in the work to get Blade’s MCU debut perfect. As a treat, it would be brilliant to get a tease of the potential Midnight Sons team during this section of Marvel Studios’ presentation, but this could be wishful thinking.

Daredevil: Born Again’s First Trailer Could Confirm Returning Defenders Saga Heroes

Daredevil: Born Again Is One Of The MCU’s Most Highly-Anticipated Upcoming Projects

Kevin Feige announced the 18-episode Daredevil: Born Again at SDCC 2022, with Charlie Cox and Vincent D’Onofrio joining him to confirm their returns in the series as Matt Murdock’s Daredevil and Wilson Fisk’s Kingpin. Since then, the series has been through a massive creative overhaul, and has become a benchmark for how Marvel Studios will begin to develop its TV shows from now on. Several changes have been made, and SDCC 2024 is the perfect place for all of these changes to be revealed.

Daredevil: Born Again Wraps Filming 6 Months After Major Creative Overhaul

Daredevil: Born Again wraps filming after a creative shakeup in late 2023 saw the Marvel Studios show’s writers and directors fired.

Most notably, Daredevil: Born Again now has a greater connection to Netflix’s previous Daredevil series. Since the Defenders Saga has been made canon to the MCU, SDCC 2024 could see Feige confirm the return of other Netflix Marvel heroes, including Krysten Ritter’s Jessica Jones, Mike Colter’s Luke Cage, and Finn Jones’ Danny Rand, a.k.a. Iron Fist. Each of these heroes have been teased to return, and a potential trailer for Daredevil: Born Again, or simple story details, could finally put this speculation to rest.

Avengers 5’s New Title Can Be Revealed (& A New Kang Actor May Appear)

Avengers 5 Updates Have Been Quiet Since Jonathan Majors’ Conviction

Originally titled The Kang Dynasty, Avengers 5 was first announced alongside Avengers: Secret Wars at SDCC 2022, thought to be bringing the Multiverse Saga to a close with an epic double bill in 2025. Evidently, Avengers 5 and the state of the entire Multiverse Saga has changed drastically, most prominently following Jonathan Majors’ 2023 arrest, conviction, and firing from Marvel Studios. This threw the fate of Avengers 5 in jeopardy, as the project lost its director and writer, so Kevin Feige could provide new information about the Phase 6 movie at SDCC 2024.

While there was speculation that Marvel Studios may move away from Kang the Conqueror and his multiversal storyline, many believe Kang and his variants could be recast. Comic Con is the perfect place to confirm this recasting, with the new Kang actor perhaps even joining Feige on stage. Aside from Kang’s possible inclusion, Feige can shine more light on Avengers 5’s actual direction, as there is currently a great deal of confusion surrounding the upcoming crossover event.

Could Marvel Studios Reveal Doctor Doom’s Casting?

Doctor Doom Is Speculated To Be Appearing In The Fantastic Four

Since the development of Marvel Studios’ The Fantastic Four was confirmed, many have been hoping that the team’s iconic archenemy from Marvel Comics would also be making his MCU debut. Doctor Doom hasn’t yet been confirmed for The Fantastic Four’s cast, but it would make sense for him to appear alongside the titular team, given their history in the comics. There has been a huge amount of speculation about who could play the MCU’s Doctor Doom, and this matter could be finalized at SDCC 2024.

The likes of Michael Fassbender, Mads Mikkelsen, Andrew Lincoln, and Cillian Murphy have been suggested as being perfect for the role of Doctor Doom. With the possibility of The Fantastic Four being a core focus of Feige’s SDCC 2024 presentation, he could be joined on stage by the mysterious actor cast as this iconic villain, too. This would certainly make up for The Fantastic Four’s core cast perhaps not being available, and would be one of Marvel Studios’ biggest announcements ever.

X-Men?!

Marvel Studios’ X-Men Reboot Recently Hired A Writer

While incredibly unlikely, it’s possible that Kevin Feige could close off Marvel Studios’ SDCC 2024 presentation with some updates regarding the MCU’s upcoming X-Men reboot. In May, Deadline reported that The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes writer Michael Lesslie had been hired to pen the script for X-Men. This means that something of a story could be in place by the time SDCC rolls around in July, perhaps allowing Feige to deliver some much-wanted teases.

It seems the MCU’s official X-Men team won’t appear until Phase 7, so there’s little chance of cast members appearing on stage at Comic Con. Even so, Feige could hint at pre-existing X-Men members appearing in the remainder of the Multiverse Saga. This could include him providing confirmation of Hugh Jackman’s potential return as Wolverine in Avengers: Secret Wars, or the status of the X-Men team from The Marvels or Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness.

One thing that is always known about Marvel Studios’ SDCC presentations is that Kevin Feige usually comes with some surprises up his sleeves. There are still several empty slots in the MCU’s upcoming slate, so previously announced projects such as Armor Wars, Shang-Chi 2, and Spider-Man 4 could be given official release dates. This also goes for TV, as more information could be revealed about Wonder Man, Vision, and Nova.
