WARNING: Contains Potential Spoilers for Wonder Woman #10!Wonder Woman is renowned for her unparalleled feats that even Superman and Batman haven’t been able to match. One such feat is her ability to break her own Lasso of Truth, a formidable artifact known to ensnare gods and mortals alike. In addition to this, she has recently demonstrated unparalleled strength by resisting the influence of the Lasso of Lies, a rare accomplishment matched by only one other individual in comic history.

Tom King, Daniel Sampere, and Tomeu Morey’s Wonder Woman #10 finally brings Diana Prince face-to-face with her long-time adversary, Barbara “Cheetah” Minerva. The ensuing battle between them is fiercely balanced, underscoring Cheetah as Wonder Woman’s singular true rival among all her foes.

This perception is reinforced by a narrative revelation that positions Cheetah alongside Wonder Woman as the only individuals ever capable of resisting the power of the Lasso of Lies—an extraordinary feat unmatched by any other across the extensive history of the Sovereign.

Barbara Minerva Joins Diana Prince in Accomplishing 1 Ultra Rare Feat–Resisting the Lasso of Lies

In Wonder Woman #10, the Sovereign explicitly states that “only [Wonder Woman and Cheetah] were able to resist our Lasso of Lies.” This weapon, part of the same family as Diana’s Lasso of Truth and former Wonder Girl Donna Troy’s Lasso of Persuasion, has the power to make anyone restrained by it believe the lies of its bearer—in this case, the Sovereign, the secret king of the United States. Thus, Cheetah and Wonder Woman stand out as the only individuals who could resist its influence and not succumb to its lies.

The Sovereign reiterates the exceptional nature of Barbara and Diana’s resistance, saying, “Of all the countless people we’ve encountered in our bloodstained century, only they could not be tamed. This underscores the unparalleled mental strength and willpower that both Wonder Woman and Cheetah possess. It’s a somewhat surprising revelation to find that Barbara matches Diana in these areas of prowess. While Cheetah has always been prominent in Wonder Woman’s rogue gallery, it seems DC is now positioning Barbara as Diana’s one true match in the DCU.

Wonder Woman Not Only Resisted the Lasso of Lies, She Also Broke Free of It

However, Cheetah isn’t completely on the same level as Wonder Woman yet. Reviewing the Sovereign’s wording, he explicitly uses the term “resist.” This is significant because, in Wonder Woman #8, Diana not only resisted the Lasso of Lies but also broke it with an incredible show of strength. Given that the Lasso of Lies is in the same family as the indestructible Lasso of Truth, this feat is particularly remarkable. The Sovereign would likely have said “broken” or “broke free” if Barbara had accomplished the same. Nevertheless, both Wonder Woman and Cheetah resisting the Lasso of Lies is an incredible feat in itself.

Created on the island of Themyscira, Wonder Woman is a super-powered demi-goddess with extreme physical strength who utilizes magical gifts (like her famous Lasso of Truth) to defeat her foes. As mighty as her fellow heroes Superman and the Justice League, Wonder Woman is unmatched in her compassion and virtue.
