Warning: SPOILERS ahead for House of the Dragon season 2, episode 3!

House of the Dragon season 2, episode 3 director Geeta Vasant Patel has confirmed whether the dragon eggs seen in the episode are the same ones Daenerys Targaryen ends up with in Game of Thrones. During the episode, Rhaenyra orders that her sons Aegon and Viserys be placed in the care of her niece, Rhaena Targaryen, in the Vale to keep them safe during the brewing war. Alongside them will be four dragon eggs, three of which have designs similar to Daenerys’ dragon eggs in the parent series.

Speaking with Mashable, Patel revealed that the dragon eggs seen in House of the Dragon season 2, episode 3 are, in fact, Daenerys’. The director confirmed the rather large Easter egg as an anticipated scene to shoot, confirming Drogon and his siblings were waiting to hatch when the Dance of the Dragons was going on. Check out what Patel had to say below:

Those are Daenerys’ eggs. All of us who work on this show are big Game of Thrones fans, so it was very exciting to shoot that scene.

What Will Happen To Daenerys’ Dragon Eggs In House Of The Dragon?

Since three of the four eggs going to the Vale will later end up with Daenerys in Game of Thrones, nothing untoward is going to happen to them during the upcoming civil war. However, there is the curious addition of a fourth egg, with House of the Dragon season 2 not yet revealing why this extra one is joining the rest of them. While it’s already clear the rest of the eggs are going to be fine, whatever happens to this additional egg could involve a fate that nearly befell Drogon and his siblings before they were even hatchlings.

Since most of the eggs sent to the Vale are going to be fine, it doesn’t seem like they’ll play too major a part in the story anytime soon. However, since there are no more dragons in Westeros by the time Game of Thrones starts, House of the Dragon will likely reveal how they were kept safe for almost 200 years until Daenerys was entrusted with them. This could include the Greens trying to destroy them to ensure Rhaenyra can’t raise any more dragons, unaware of what their actions would cause.

Since the eggs have only just been introduced, it may not be until House of the Dragon season 3 that their full importance during the civil war is shown. Given one of these eggs doesn’t make it to Daenerys by the time Game of Thrones begins, its fate will need to be explained during the prequel series. Even though their final fate is clear, the eggs will still play a key role in the spinoff as the civil war finally comes to a head.
