The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power season 2 releases a new image, revealing the show’s Hill-troll. After first debuting on Prime Video in 2022, the hit J.R.R. Tolkien adaptation – created by Patrick McKay and J.D. Payne – is now gearing up to continue the story of the rise of evil in Middle-earth during the Second Age. The Rings of Power season 2 is set to bring back a number of familiar characters from season 1, in addition to introducing a number of new characters and creatures.

One new creature set to debut in The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power season 2 is the Hil-troll, which Empire Magazine reveals in a new photo. Check out the new image below:

The formidable monster’s name is Damrod, and McKay describes him as an “eater of dragon bones.” Actor Benjamin Walker voices the Hill-troll, who will play a key role as part of Adar’s army in the upcoming season. McKay also reveals that the inspiration for Damrod actually came from a character in the Breaking Bad universe.

“[He] was inspired in part by Mike Ehrmantraut in Breaking Bad and Better Call Saul, if you look at the way he moves and his casual sense of strength.”

More to come…

The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power brings to screens the heroic legends of the fabled Second Age of Middle-earth’s history for the very first time. Set thousands of years before the events of J.R.R. Tolkien’s The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings, The Rings of Power will explore a time in the franchise where kingdoms rose and fell, where The One Ring itself was forged and tells the tale of the rise of the greatest foe in the Lord of the Rings Franchise, the Dark Lord Sauron. Beginning in a time of peace, the series follows an ensemble cast of familiar and new characters as they confront the long-feared reemergence of evil in Middle-earth. From the depths of the Misty Mountains to the forests of the elf-capital of Lindon, to the island kingdom of Númenor, to the farthest reaches of the map, The Rings of Power promises to condense the extended works of Tolkien in a condensed but all-encompassing TV show format. The first season of The Rings of Power began airing exclusively on Prime Video on September 2, 2022
