DC‘s movie and TV show release slate only has one empty month in 2024. While the DCU’s cinematic offerings will launch with Superman on July 11, 2025, rebooting DC’s cinematic franchise, there are still plenty of preceding releases to enjoy in 2024. These include properties that sit outside the mainline cinematic universe, instead falling under the Elseworlds banner, and one TV show that will be the first official installment of the DC Universe’s Chapter 1. While hopes are high for the quality of James Gunn’s DCU productions, DC’s Elseworlds properties have a pretty solid track record.

This is a good sign for 2024, which mainly comprises DC Animations. Unfortunately for DC, a series of subpar DCEU movies tarnished DC’s cinematic legacy, while 2024 provides a year’s distance between the two cinematic franchises. Thankfully, DC productions in 2024 are far from sparse, allowing the franchise to rebuild from some divisive prior releases.

Predicting 10 Biggest DCU Announcements Of 2024

With all the changes that the DC Universe has faced in 2023, 2024 will likely produce a litany of announcements concerning the franchise’s future.

DC Still Has 8 Releases To Come In 2024

With all the upcoming DC shows and movies coming up, November is the only month that will not host a DC release. The most anticipated cinematic release is Joker: Folie à Deux, the sequel to 2019’s billion-dollar Joker. While The Batman – Part II is still a long way from being released, a self-titled spinoff show focusing on Colin Farrell’s Penguin is set to delve deeper into Matt Reeve’s dark Batman universe when it releases in October on Max. My Adventures with Superman and Suicide Squad ISEKAI animations are also available to stream now.

This will debut the titular team and Frank Grillo’s Rick Flag Sr. before he will reprise the role in live-action in Superman several months later. While the launch of the DCU is exciting, the biggest month for DC fans is just around the corner.

The Biggest Month For DC Fans Will Be July

July will see the release of Justice League: Crisis on Infinite Earths Part 3 and Kite Man: Hell Yeah!, but these aren’t the reasons that July is such a big month for DC. This is instead thanks to the fact that San Diego Comic-Con will be taking place between July 25th – 28th. Fans can confidently expect plenty of DC news to be announced during this event and, more specifically, further information surrounding the DCU and its upcoming movies and TV shows.

This news will likely include developments on upcoming DCU projects like Superman, The Authority, and The Brave and the Bold. James Gunn also stated that the currently announced release slate is barely scratching the surface of what’s to come in the DCU‘s first phase entitled “Chapter One: Gods and Monsters.” With that in mind, there could be some brand-new shows and movies on the cards, making this Comic-Con one to keep a close eye on this July.

DC Universe

The DC Universe is one of the biggest comic book franchises and often competes with Marvel. DC Comics started as National Allied Publications, founded by Malcolm Wheeler-Nicholson in 1935. Since then, the franchise has exploded with thousands of comic books, movies, TV shows, and video games. 2013 marked the beginning of the most recent iteration of the superheroes, with Zack Snyder introducing Henry Cavill as Superman. After several movies with mixed reviews, DC underwent a soft reboot under the helm of James Gunn and Peter Safran.
