A fan trailer for an alternative Venom 3 has proffered the perfect possible narrative for the upcoming sequel, though it is certainly not what Sony has planned for Venom: The Last Dance. The Venom: The Last Dance trailer has teased Tom Hardy’s final appearance as the famed Marvel antihero. After years of promising an epic final battle with Spider-Man, it seems that Tom Hardy’s Venom will never face the Web-Head, though an incredible fan trailer has shown what this could look like.

The Venom movies have been the most successful part of Sony’s Spider-Man Universe, with Spider-Man himself appearing exclusively in the MCU timeline. The dynamic, universe-melding nature of Spider-Man: No Way Home appeared to set up Venom entering Holland’s cinematic realm, or vice versa, but the Venom 3 trailer has undermined this potential. However, the best option considering the fallout of No Way Home has been neatly captured in a fan trailer.

A Venom 3 fan trailer has proffered an alternative version of the movie, in which Tom Hardy’s Venom faces both Andrew Garfield and Tobey Maguire’s Spider-Man. In the proposed narrative, Garfield and Maguire were returned to the same universe after No Way Home, in which Tom Hardy’s Venom also resides. Hardy’s Venom also has a distinctive update, becoming even more fearsome and dynamic, making him closer to his villainous origins. The trailer also includes Emma Stone’s Gwen Stacy appearing as Spider-Gwen.

Unlike the actual trailer for Spider-Man: The Last Dance, the fan trailer has incorporated the universe-melding events of No Way Home into the narrative. The No Way Home post-credits scene in particular teased potential consequences that could extend to Venom. However, Venom: The Last Dance is seemingly unaffected by this. Moreover, No Way Home established an opportunity to reintroduce previous Spider-Man performers, but equally has elected not to. The Venom 3 fan trailer includes all of these aspects, and it is precisely the movie that audiences deserve – and was somewhat promised.

Why Spider-Man Hasn’t Met Venom In A Movie Since 2007

Spider-Man And Venom Last Met In Spider-Man 3

Venom and Spider-Man haven’t encountered each other in cinema since 2007’s Spider-Man 3. This is largely due to the complex character rights of the Spider-Man characters. The cinematic rights to the Spider-Man franchise are primarily owned by Sony Pictures. Marvel Studios long desired to integrate Spider-Man into the MCU, leading to a deal in 2016, in which Spider-Man could appear in the MCU, including a trilogy of solo movies. Other characters, including Venom, were not subject to such a deal.

This led to the development of the Sony Spider-Man Universe, which adapts classic Spider-Man villains, including Venom, Morbius, and Madame Web. Tom Holland’s Spider-Man was reportedly scheduled to make cameo appearances in some of these, but this was changed after Marvel requested Holland not appear. Spider-Man is undoubtedly one of the most popular Marvel characters, and evidently, the joint ventures between Sony and Marvel are producing some of the best MCU movies.

It’s therefore understandable that both studios continue working together, but the business of character rights complicates this. That said, Sony has suggested that their universe exists alongside the MCU’s as part of a larger multiverse – as was teased by No Way Home – with Tom Holland eventually appearing. However, many have also suggested that while this is still unavailable, Andrew Garfield’s Peter Parker could appear in the SSU instead. This would allow for a more complete Spider-Man universe and finally give audiences the Venom fight they’re waiting for.

Sony has assured audiences that the plan if for Venom and Spider-Man to meet, but the collaborative nature of this complicates things. Pragmatically, scheduling and strategic franchise development play a role. Both Marvel and Sony have their own extensive plans and timelines for their respective characters and universes. Aligning these schedules for a crossover requires careful coordination and mutual agreement on the narrative direction for both Spider-Man and Venom.
