Destro is set to face off against some of the deadliest characters in the entire G.I. Joe franchise in the Energon Universe, but for the long-time Cobra villain, they’re just names on his “kill list.” The first issue of Destro’s new miniseries set up a secret war between various arms dealers, with the Scottish Laird facing off against the Crimson Twins, Tomax and Xamot.

The solicitation for Destro #4 teases some of the challenges the title character will face in this penultimate issue, as Destro assembles quite the list of enemies to eliminate before all is said and done.

Skybound’s “Destro” Is Setting Up The Chameleon As A Pivotal Figure

Destro #1-4 – Written by Dan Watters; Art By Andrei Bresson

In addition to the enemies named on Destro’s “kill list,” another character is blacked out on the main cover by Andrei Bressan and Adriano Lucas. Judging from the silhouette, it seems to be a female character with long hair. G.I. Joe fans might immediately think this is Destro’s long-time lover Baroness, but that character has already appeared in the Energon Universe – with short hair, and as a member of the G.I. Joe team. It’s also possible that this could be Chameleon without her mask on, which raises a number of interesting questions in readers’ minds.

In previous continuities, Chameleon was the half-sister of Baroness, who got plastic surgery to look just like her sibling and impersonate her in the ranks of Cobra. Given that possibility, it will be very interesting to learn if the Energon Universe Chameleon has a similar backstory. Of course, the blacked out character could be an entirely new take on another franchise character. The Energon Universe began with the shocking debut of Jetfire in Void Rivals #1, and Skybound has been smart about making each further character reveal feel like an event.

“Destro” May Introduce More Classic Villains To The Energon Universe

Bring On The Bad Guys

Destro #4 cover, Scrap Iron standing in front of an explosion.

A number of classic villains have already shown up in the G.I. Joe corner of the Energon Universe. Scrap-Iron, Major Bludd and most of the Dreadnoks have already appeared in the Duke and Cobra Commander miniseries. Destro #1 already pulled some pretty obscure characters into the fray, including Destro’s cousin Darklon and the little-known Transformers heiress Astoria Carlton-Ritz. Coupled with the Energon Universe of major villains Tomax and Xamot, fans will have to keep their eyes on Destro to see which G.I. Joe characters show up next.
