WARNING: Contains Potential Spoilers for Batman: The Brave and the Bold #13!While Tim Drake may have the reputation for being Batman’s most clever Robin, Nightwing once again reminds fans that it’s hard to match the OG Boy Wonder’s skill levels, including his innate cleverness. This reminder comes with the reveal of Dick Grayson’s ingenious security measures for his latest base of operations. Despite this smart security design, some fans may still find one glaring flaw. Luckily, there is an easy fix.

Batman: The Brave and the Bold #13 features five must-read narratives, including the Deadman and Nightwing-centric story, Down the Road, Part 1, by Tim Seeley, Kelley Jones, and Michelle Madsen. This narrative sees Dick Grayson receiving an unexpected visit from the iconic Justice League Dark hero and ghost, Boston Brand.

During this ghostly encounter, the spotlight is shone on one of Dick’s safe houses and its security measures. It offers an interesting reveal of a unique feature Nightwing has in place to keep unwanted intruders out: the requirement to perform a quadruple somersault to gain entry.

Nightwing INGENUIS Safe House Security Incorporates His One-Of-A-Kind Ability To Do a Quadruple Somersault

Tim Drake figuring out Nightwing Robin and Batman identity

Nightwing’s internal monologue in Down the Road reveals that the “hero entrance” of his base is only accessible to individuals capable of executing a quadruple somersault into a rolling bar catch. Thanks to Tim Drake in the Batman storyline, A Lonely Place of Dying by Marv Wolfman, George Perez, and Jim Aparo, fans know that only three people in the world could perform this maneuver. John and Mary Grayson, two of the three individuals capable of executing a quadruple somersault, are deceased, leaving their son, Dick Grayson, as the sole living person capable of executing the move.

The requirement for a quadruple somersault is an ingenious security measure for Dick because he is the only person capable of performing the move. What makes this security measure even more brilliant is that it is purely ability-based, unlike many of the Batcave’s defenses, which can be hacked or circumvented. Therefore, this entry requirement lacks the vulnerabilities of tech-based defenses. Additionally, it is a cost-efficient security feature since it doesn’t rely on expensive technology. This means that Dick can easily replicate this defense with limited funds. However, there is one major vulnerability to this contingency that Nightwing needs to rectify.

Deadman Proves Nightwing’s Security Is Extremely Vulnerable to Metas (But There Is a Solution)

Despite Dick Grayson being the only person alive with the ability to perform a quadruple somersault into a rolling bar catch, Deadman gaining entry into Nightwing’s safehouse proves that it’s not a flawless security measure. In fact, it shows that this security measure is vulnerable to the dead, as well as metahumans. However, bolstering the quadruple somersault entry with tech and/or magic enchantments could fix this problem. Such enhancements would require one to pass through multiple layers of security, with each layer added, making it less likely for anyone other than Nightwing to gain entry.
