Actor Lance Reddick played a handful of iconic characters in the DC Universe, but his dream role could’ve been his best one yet. Reddick was best known for his roles as Cedric Daniels in The Wire and in the John Wick franchise as Charon. He also lent his voice to several animated series and video game franchises, most notably voicing Commander Zavala in the Destiny games and Sylens in the Horizon franchise. Reddick unfortunately passed away on March 17, 2023 due to heart disease, but fans will have several upcoming releases to look forward to.

Reddick’s posthumous releases include the biographical drama Shirley and an upcoming appearance in the John Wick spin-off, John Wick Presents: Ballerina. Reddick’s final voice-acting role will be as an infamous villain in an upcoming animated DC series, further cementing his legacy in the DC Universe. The actor has played both hero and villain in the DCU, portraying some of the most famous characters in comics history. However, Reddick expressed his ultimate dream roles in the DCU, and they could’ve been the best of all.

Lance Reddick’s Final Role Is Lex Luthor & He Played 2 Other DC Icons

Lex Luthor talks to Harley Quinn and Poison Ivy in Harley Quinn series

Reddick’s final DC role will be in the upcoming animated series Kite Man: Hell Yeah! on Max, a spin-off of the black comedy series Harley Quinn. He will voice the infamous Lex Luthor, taking over the role from Giancarlo Esposito, who voiced the character in Harley Quinn. Kite Man: Hell Yeah! will follow the titular character as he operates a seedy bar in Gotham City. Though Lex Luthor’s exact role in the story is unknown just yet, the egotistical, power-hungry CEO will surely be around to cause trouble.

Lex Luthor is not Reddick’s first role in the DC Universe. He previously voiced Ra’s Al Ghul in Beware The Batman, an animated series that aired on Cartoon Network. Following Batman’s earlier years of crime fighting, he faces Gotham’s criminal underworld, which includes the villain Ra’s al Ghul. Reddick also voiced Thomas Wayne in Batman Unburied, the excellent audio drama podcast series. It was fitting to have Reddick play such a unique role, as no other series has really given Bruce’s father his own story.

Lance Reddick Wanted To Play Martian Manhunter & John Stewart In DC Movies

Alongside his three existing DC roles, Reddick had expressed interest in taking part in the live-action DCU. Reddick told IGN in 2015 that he would love to play either Martian Manhunter or John Stewart. The actor has always been a fan favorite to play Martian Manhunter, one of the original founding members of the Justice League in the comics. John Stewart would’ve also been a fitting role for Reddick prior to the new Lanterns reboot. Both feel like major missed opportunities.

Martian Manhunter was retconned into the DCEU after one improvisational choice from an actor in the franchise’s first project, 2013’s Man of Steel.

Reddick’s passing leaves the question of what could’ve been with his future DCU involvement, but his existing roles are more than enough to cement his legacy. He has already voiced two iconic characters, and his final posthumous DC role will be the infamous Lex Luthor. Not many people can say that they’ve played an iconic DC character, let alone three of them. Despite not getting to play his dream DCU roles, Reddick’s impact on the wider DC media franchise is unquestionable.
