Bomer’s new sitcom could bring back some of White Collar’s humor with a new twist. According to Variety, the Hulu sitcom is modeled after the iconic show The Golden Girls, following the adventures of three gay best friends who decide to spend their golden years together in Palm Springs, Florida. Bomer will play Jerry Frank, whose description reads that he is “pure of heart” and that the character “is also hard of body and soft of head.” This would likely make him the Rose of the group, who was played by the late-great Betty White.

Mid-Century Modern has the opportunity to bring some of White Collar’s humor back before the reboot, as well as blend it with The Golden Girl’s iconic ensemble comedy. Bomer’s banter with Tim DeKay is what made White Collar‘s episodes so sharply hilarious. Using that same comedic timing, Bomer would be able to bring White Collar’s humor to Mid-Century Modern, giving fans a sample before the reboot. Not only that but blending in elements of The Golden Girl‘s humor would give those comedic moments a new edge, demonstrating more of Bomer’s skill beyond dramatic storylines.

Bomer’s Recent Work Has Largely Focused On Drama

Bomer’s works after White Collar mostly showcase his talent for dramatic acting. After White Collar’s final season, Bomer did feature in a few comedic titles, such as the Magic Mike franchise as Ken from 2012-2023, The Nice Guys as the main villain John Boy in 2016, and weatherman McCoy Whitman in the Will & Grace revival in 2018. However, Bomer’s work has largely skewed towards dramatic roles, allowing Mid-Century Modern to be his true return to comedy.

Bomer’s largest roles after White Collar include his many appearances in the American Horror Story universe as Andy (briefly in season 4), Donovan (season 5), and in the anthology series American Horror Stories as Michael Winslow. Bomer also featured in season 3 of The Sinner as Jamie in 2020. He starred in two limited series’ The Last Tycoon, as filmmaker Monroe Starr in 2016 and Echoes as Jack Beck in 2022. There Are Few Details Regarding The White Collar Reboot

Though there is minimal information currently out regarding the White Collar reboot, the return of the original cast and creator does point to intriguing expansions of the story. Updates on the White Collar revival have been scarce since Jeff Eastin, the show’s original creator, announced that he was writing a script for a reboot at a Variety media event. Bomer, DeKay, and Tiffany Thiessen were also present and confirmed that they would be revising their roles as Neal Caffrey, Peter Burke, and Elizabeth Burke, respectively.

Few details have been mentioned regarding the plot of the White Collar reboot, but the return of the original cast does create many fascinating options. Showcasing Neal and Peter’s reunion after the series finale is a predominant one, with Eastin giving hints that the story would honor Willie Garson, who played Mozzie and sadly passed in 2021. These factors, combined with the series’ original procedural structure, give the White Collar reboot plenty of ways of recapturing the original’s humor and heart.
