This article contains SPOILERS for House of the Dragon season 2, episode 2.

Following the repercussions of Blood & Cheese in “Rhaenyra the Cruel,” House of the Dragon season 2, episode 3 will continue exploring the now violent war between the Greens and the Blacks. House of the Dragon season 2 episode 2’s ending changed the show in a lot of ways, including but not limited to the fact Ser Criston Cole is now King Aegon’s Hand. Despite Otto Hightower’s best efforts at capitalizing on the death of the king’s firstborn, Aegon II’s reckless actions have made things much more complicated. Still, many across the realm now see Rhaenyra as cruel.

“Rhaenyra the Cruel” also explored Alicent’s complicated, almost non-existent relationship with her children. The Queen Mother could barely look at Helaena’s eyes after what happened and not even addressed Aegon after the king burst into tears in front of her. While the killers of Jaehaerys are dead, Aegon still wants blood for what happened. With an “iron fist” as his Hand, Aegon II is ready to take what had so far been a silent war straight to Rhaenyra.
