Warning: Spoilers for Sensational She-Hulk #9!Even Marvel remembers how weird She-Hulk’s relationship with Thor was – and would rather not dwell on it. Up until her more recent union with her best love interest, Jack of Hearts (in what has easily proven to be She-Hulk’s best romance), She-Hulk never really had long-term romances in the past. Rather, her character was always more accustomed to brief flings with other characters – including the God of Thunder.

Sensational She-Hulk #9 – written by Rainbow Rowell, with art by Andres Genolet –subtly acknowledges the short-lived romantic connection between Marvel heroes Thor and She-Hulk, which ranks among both characters’ stranger flings.

Judging by the awkwardness and their blushing, She-Hulk and Thor wanted to zip past this moment as quickly as possible…just like Marvel did with their romantic plotline. That said, it is possible that this moment was deliberately planted to hint at a future amorous angle for the pair.

She-Hulk And Thor’s Romantic History, Explained

Sensational She-Hulk #9 – Written By Rainbow Rowell; Art By Andres Genolet, Dee Cunniffe, & VC’s Joe Caramagna

During Jason Aaron’s Avengers run, She-Hulk and Thor worked side-by-side, leading the two to share a kiss in the heat of battle. That marked the start of their tryst, but things only grew complicated from there. For starters, an awkward date in the Savage Land over beers gave Jennifer the impression that Thor only wanted to date She-Hulk, not Jennifer Walters. Second, this was a time when Jennifer was in a more ‘bestial mindset,” due to an evolution of her powers. She’d eventually return to her more familiar form, but at the time of their romance, Jennifer was drastically different.

In that sense, one can argue Thor dated a different person, contributing to this new issue’s awkwardness. It’s also worth noting that in last year’s She-Hulk #10, as Jennifer lay in bed awake after seemingly becoming estranged from a distant Jack of Hearts, she did receive a late night “U up?” text from Thor. Anyone who has received such a text late at night – from an ex especially – knows what was on the Mighty One’s mind. The lawyer ignored the Asgardian’s message in favor of inviting her best friend Patsy Walker (a.k.a. Hellcat) over for a drink.

A Rekindled She-Hulk & Thor Romance Could Be What Both Characters Need

A Possible Tease For The Future

Jennifer Walters thinks Thor only wants to date She-Hulk.

The Sensational She-Hulk #9 features Captain Marvel trying to recruit the title character for the Avengers. She hasn’t decided officially yet, but as this tour through their Impossible City headquarters reminds readers, Jennifer will be on the same team as her ex if she accepts. Things could get even more awkward, but they could also be teasing a romantic reunion between the former lovers. Their initial romance kind of fizzled rather than having a proper ending, but if Marvel isn’t afraid to revisit the awkwardness, She-Hulk and Thor could pick up where they left off.

Thor

Associated with the mythical realm of Asgard, Thor is a Marvel Comics hero who channels the power of thunder to slay their foes. Though the name is chiefly tied to Thor Odinson, several other characters also take on the role of God of Thunder, including Odinson’s love interest, Jane Foster. Odin is portrayed as a physically imposing hero with incredible strength and typically wields the dwarven forged hammer, Mjolnir.
