Batman: Caped Crusader will feature a whole host of villains from the rogues gallery, but one character is appearing in a way that has never been seen before. The new animated series has been in the works since 2021 when it was first announced, but after several delays and setbacks, the show is finally dropping on Amazon Prime Video. Originally intended to be released on HBO Max, the series hit a roadblock when the DCEU was retired, and many of the projects from DC were halted.

Now, the series finally has a full cast, with incredible voice talent, and an opportunity to deliver another exciting animated Batman project akin to Batman: The Animated Series. With Batman early in his career as The Dark Knight, the villains of Gotham are all coming out of the woodwork, ready to test their grit against the Dark Avenger. However, there have been some minor tweaks to characters who have a long history in Batman stories and have a very distinct style, such as the former District Attorney, turned murderous villain, Harvey Dent.

Two-Face’s Batman: Caped Crusader Design Is Very Different To His Traditional DC Look

No More Clear Split, Or Different Colors

Harvey Dent is one of the most interesting villains to face off against Batman. Formerly, he served as a well respected DA, serving justice to the criminals of Gotham, but when he suffers a horrific attack, traditionally acid being thrown in his face, his personality changes. As Two-Face, Dent becomes a cold, indiscriminate killer, often allowing chance and fate to determine his actions. As interesting as the character is in theory, in practice, he has also always had a distinct visual style, with a clear split appearance between the scarred and unscarred parts of his face.

This serves as a visual symbol of the character’s split personality, his complex morals, and it serves as a reflection of the duality of heroes like Batman. Batman fights crime and protects Gotham, but he works outside the law as a vigilante. He chooses to deliver his own brand of justice, ignoring the established system, and despite his vast resources as Bruce Wayne, his efforts are focused on vengeful justice, rather than reform of a broken system. With Two-Face appearing drastically different to previous versions, there is a chance that the character will also be inherently different.

What Batman: Caped Crusader’s Two-Face Redesign Suggests About The Character

Change The Look, Change The Character

It’s clear that Batman: Caped Crusader is attempting to leave a distinct impression on the Batman canon, and distinguish itself from other versions. The series has made a number of changes to other characters, including Harley Quinn, which will have an effect on their story. Two-Face remains highly scarred, with the injury being contained on one side of his face. He also has a distinct shade of color in his hair on one half of his head, but the skin tone is consistent across his face.

This could indicate that the incident which made them into Two-Face happened long ago, or even at birth, which would explain there being no irritation or discoloration of the scarred area. Otherwise, it could still be an acid attack, but rather than making them into some quirky and extremely divided character, they could be a much more calm and intense villain. Whatever the meaning behind it, Two-Face’s change in appearance is likely to impact the character in Batman: Caped Crusader.
