After months of teasing, DC Comics’ summer event Absolute Power is nearly here. But before things really get swinging, the publisher revealed a new look at the event’s third slate of releases set for this September. Amanda Waller, the Trinity of Evil, and Task Force VII’s reign of terror only gets worse as the heroes of the DC Universe are on the run. But while many heroes are looking for places to hide, one Justice League member is preparing for the fight of his life.

In addition to Absolute Power and tie-in books like Absolute Power: Origins or the upcoming one-shot Absolute Power: Super Son #1, many of DC’s ongoing series are connected to the big event. Green Lantern #15 by Jeremy Adams, Fernando Pasarin, and Oclair Albert will bring another story that showcases Hal Jordan’s fight to stay alive in this radically changed world. Like his teammates, Hal is powerless in Amanda Waller’s world, but Green Lantern’s got a way to fight back against the Trinity of Evil and Task Force VII.

The solicitation mentions that Green Lantern has no choice but to borrow Batman’s Batplane to get to Earth’s Central Power Battery. But that’s not the only thing Hal’s borrowing. The issue’s main cover by Ariel Colon shows Green Lantern armed to the teeth with super-villain equipment like Captain Cold’s Cold Gun, Deadshot’s scope, and a Joker flower pinned to his bomber jacket. Hal has even come into possession of Wonder Woman’s sword and shield that he keeps strapped to his back as the Lantern prepares for a fight.

Green Lantern is One of Amanda Waller’s Most Wanted

Things in Green Lantern’s life have been rough ever since the Corps’ leadership was mysteriously handed over to the United Planets. Under the command of Lord Premier Thaaros, Sector 2814 was quarantined and every Lantern from Earth was reassigned. But things really got off the rails when Jordan’s first new job, escorting Thaaros to a parlay with the Sinestro Corps, ended with the Sinestro Corps Central Power Battery exploding, killing Jordan’s good friend Kilowog. The death caused Hal to retire from the Green Lantern Corps, leaving Thaaros to institute even more changes.

While Hal remained on Earth, Thaaros began a mad play to take control of the Emotional Spectrum. Thaaros was the one who secretly had the Sinestro Central Power Battery destroyed and he ordered a special contingent of United Planets Lanterns to destroy the Central Power Batteries of other corps. As Thaaros began blowing up different colored batteries, the United Planets Lanterns began channeling different lights of the Emotional Spectrum such as red or blue. In addition to controlling the lights, Thaaros was hoping to crack the secrets of the mysterious Source Lantern.

Hal Jordan discovered the devastation happening to the Emotional Spectrum, unaware it was being perpetrated by Thaaros. After getting a new Power Ring, Jordan traveled to Oa to report this to Thaaros and the United Planets, only to find out Thaaros had taken control of the organization’s ruling council. Green Lantern escaped Oa with the knowledge that Thaaros was seizing the Emotional Spectrum for himself, but Thaaros vowed Hal wouldn’t get away. Thaaros called in a favor to Amanda Waller and demanded that she bring him Green Lantern to keep their working relationship intact.

Green Lantern Proves He’s More than Just a Ring

Hal Jordan in Green Lantern #9 flying with his new power ring

Just because Waller has stymied Green Lantern’s ability to generate constructs, that doesn’t mean he’s going to sit back and let Amanda capture him and deliver him to Thaaros. Hal Jordan was chosen to wield his Green Lantern Power Ring because he has incredible willpower, and that’s not something Waller can easily take away. He might not be able to create an endless supply of weapons with his Power Ring, but Green Lantern’s certainly going to get by with his new collection of tools.

Wherever Hal’s getting his weapons from, he’s made some pretty smart picks. Captain Cold’s Cold Gun can render things completely inert and is powerful enough to stop the Flash in his tracks (meaning it could come in handy against Task Force VII’s ‘Flash’, Velocity). Who knows what kind of concoction is waiting in the Joker flower? But it’s certain to pack a punch. Not to mention, there are plenty of other useful weapons Green Lantern has found in this armory such as a Starro spore and the Helmet of Fate.

Hal Jordan might be known for his Power Ring, but his determination has always been his true superpower. Instead of running and hiding, Hal confronts the danger with whatever he can get his hands on. While Green Lantern has the stack decked against him, he’s been around the block enough to know what super-villain items can do the most damage. With the Cold Gun, Wonder Woman’s sword and his impressive willpower, Green Lantern just might get out of Absolute Power without so much as a scratch.

Green Lantern’s Willpower Won’t Let Him Down

Absolute Power Task Force VII 3 Timms Variant Cover NF: Hal Jordan and Star Sapphire.

One might think willpower can’t do Green Lantern much when he doesn’t have a Power Ring. But Hal is one of the most resourceful heroes in the DC Universe and nothing shows it more than this cover. Sure, the Cold Gun and a Joker flower might not be the best substitute for Green Lantern’s ring, but it’s a prime example of Jordan’s tenacity when he’s in the heat of battle. As long as he’s got his impressive determination the Justice League can count on Green Lantern in their time of need.

Green Lantern #15 is available on September 11th from DC Comics.
