Valiant Comics’ Bloodshot kicks off Black, White and Bloodshot by going after a most unlikely target: Mickey Mouse. Mickey Mouse, or a version of him, has recently entered the public domain, and Valiant seizes on this opportunity by pitting Bloodshot against an evil version of the beloved Disney icon in a first look at Black, White and Bloodshot #1, a new miniseries featuring new, bichromatic adventures of Valiant’s cybernetic assassin.

Black, White and Bloodshot #1, the first of four issues, will feature exciting new stories featuring Bloodshot, by a bevy of top creators, including Brian Azzarello, Ariel Olivetti, Tim Seeley as well as Bloodshot co-creator Kevin Van Hook. Similar to other popular bichromatic books, such as Deadpool: Black, White and Blood, this new title will feature black and white colors with red accents, highlighting the violent world Bloodshot lives in.

A preview page, shared here, shows just how dark and bloody it will get, as Bloodshot fights down an evil version of Mickey Mouse.

Bloodshot Is The First Valiant Character to Get the Bichromatic Treatment

His First Foe In the New Series Is His Most Unlikely

Bloodshot is one of Valiant’s signature characters, and one of the few to make the leap into other media, in this case, a live-action film starring Vin Diesel. Bloodshot’s world is gory and brutal–perfect for the bichromatic format. Other violence-prone characters, such as Deadpool, Harley Quinn and Moon Knight, have found great success in the format. Black, White and Bloodshot will mark Valiant’s entry into the genre. Valiant, in a recent partnership with Alien Books, has made enormous strides over the past year in rejuvenating their line, and Black, White and Bloodshot will continue this streak.

Mickey Mouse is one of the most endearing icons in popular culture, instantly recognizable around the world. Mickey Mouse debuted in the 1928 short Steamboat Willie, and would go on to become one of the faces of the Disney franchise. Recently, Steamboat Willie entered the public domain, which means that a version of the character can be used by anyone in any way they see fit. With the copyright to Mickey Mouse, or at least the Steamboat Willie version, now expired, several riffs have appeared in pop culture, and now a version is entering the Valiant universe.

Black, White and Bloodshot Puts a Unique Spin on Recent Mickey Mouse Parodies

Will Bloodshot Survive an Evil, Heavily-Armed Mickey Mouse?

Bloodshot Unleashed 2 Preview

Several of the Mickey Mouse parodies that appeared upon the character’s entrance into the public domain were horror-oriented, and the story in Black, White and Bloodshot #1 is cut from that cloth. The Mickey Mouse variant Bloodshot is going up against on the preview page is pure nightmare fuel, and just as heavily armed as Bloodshot himself. Few could have predicted Mickey Mouse’s arrival in the public domain would have put him in Bloodshot’s crosshairs. Valiant Comics is making this far-out scenario a reality in Black, White and Bloodshot #1.
