X-Men

The X-Men franchise, created by Stan Lee and Jack Kirby, centers on mutants with extraordinary abilities. Led by the powerful telepath Professor Charles Xavier, they battle discrimination and villainous mutants threatening humanity. The series explores themes of diversity and acceptance through a blend of action, drama, and complex characters, spanning comics, animated series, and blockbuster films.

The variant cover is hardly the first time Godzilla has crossed Scott’s mind. After becoming Krakoa’s War Captain, he developed a full “Summers Protocol” for handling Kaiju. Cyclops knows the answer isn’t always to destroy them, and now his strategy is paying off. Establishing a full strategy for handling skyscraper-sized monsters probably isn’t at the top of every hero’s priority list, but Cyclops never misses a chance to come up with a solid contingency plan. In it, Scott lays out different approaches aimed at redirecting and subduing Kaiju without destroying them, ensuring more saved lives.

X-Men's Summers Protocol: Delaying Kaiju, written instructions from Cyclops on handling Kaiju threats.

When facing a major threat, it’s easy to assume that destroying it is the safest option. Cyclops knows better. Mutantkind made their home on Krakoa, and the island itself was once a raging Kaiju that faced the X-Men in battle. “Monster” does not always have to mean “enemy” and the Summers Protocol offers a minimum of three solutions, meant to maximize the number of lives saved without causing undue harm. There is also a specific addition for “an atomic lizard” filed under different protocols, so he was fully prepared for this variant cover team-up.

Scott Could Be A Natural Kaiju Wrangler

While Cyclops and Godzilla’s partnership may be limited to Samnee’s impressive cover, it’s a well-deserved match. Scott has put in the work and training (as he always does) to make the most of such an encounter. If Godzilla arrives to take down another Kaiju, he’d be one of the first to see that they were fighting on the same side, rather than treating the King of Monsters like another threat. The image of concussive beams alongside atomic blasts seems like a natural progression. Scott Summers has a strategy for everything, and the Cyclops x Godzilla team-up seals that in stone.
