Less than a year following its season 3 finale, Slow Horses returns with season 4 in September 2024, and one talented actor, who should have played a James Bond movie villain years ago, will be joining the cast alongside a few other new faces. The Apple TV+ spy thriller is based on Mick Herron’s Slough House book series, with each season following one novel. Slow Horses season 4 will aptly adapt Spook Street, the fourth book in Herron’s series, and feature the return of Gary Oldman as Jackson Lamb, the leader of Slough House, a branch of MI5 containing disgraced agents.

After making serious and consequential mistakes, MI5 reassigns the incompetent operatives to Slough House, where they are forced to complete mundane administrative tasks instead of partaking in any sort of action. Despite their unfortunate circumstances, the characters of Slow Horses still manage to find themselves caught up in dangerous schemes and high-stakes missions. Joining the cast in Slow Horses season 4 are Ruth Bradley, James Callis, Joanna Scanlan, Tom Brooke, and Hugo Weaving.

Slow Horses Season 4’s Hugo Weaving Is The Villain Actor James Bond Should’ve Had

Weaving Plays Frank Harkness In Slow Horses

Hugo Weaving, known for his role as Agent Smith in the Matrix movie series, stars as Frank Harkness in Slow Horses season 4. As Slough House readers know, Frank is a villain, and based on the released images from Slow Horses season 4, Weaving’s character is intimidating, continuing the actor’s streak of impressive evil roles. Ultimately, his performance will prove why he’s the best choice for a James Bond villain. Weaving has played various antagonists in the past, including Agent Smith and Red Skull in Captain America: The First Avenger, but never one in the James Bond franchise.

It’s quite shocking that Weaving has never been cast as a villain in a James Bond film, given his resume and talent. While he is a diverse actor who has also taken on several heroic roles, Weaving is best known for his villainous characters. That’s why it’s so surprising he has never been a Big Bad in the James Bond series, which arguably contains the best antagonists. Weaving has repeatedly demonstrated how great he is at portraying villains, and he will continue to do so in the Apple TV+ thriller drama television series.

Hugo Weaving In Slow Horses Makes Season 4 The Most Exciting Yet

Weaving’s Involvement Elevates The Apple TV+ Thriller

Hugo Weaving joining the cast of Slow Horses season 4 is one of the most exciting developments in the Apple TV+ show. As mentioned above, Weaving is a talented actor who has repeatedly proven that he excels at playing evil characters. Frank Harkness should be no different. Weaving is a dream casting for the role, and although the upcoming episodes haven’t debuted yet, Frank could easily become the best villain the show has ever featured because of Weaving. Of course, the previous seasons of Slow Horses have been critically acclaimed and were an overall success, but Weaving’s involvement just elevates the show even more.

Slow Horses has been renewed through season 5, and Apple announced they are developing a new show that will be the spy thriller’s perfect replacement.

Please EON, Cast Hugo Weaving As Bond 26’s Villain

Weaving Could Still Play A James Bond Villain

Thankfully, it’s not too late for Hugo Weaving to get cast in a James Bond movie. EON Productions is in the midst of planning Bond 26, and while everyone is talking about who should replace Daniel Craig as the next James Bond, they should also be discussing who should play the antagonist. Weaving is the perfect man for the job as he undoubtedly has what it takes to embody the role of a James Bond villain. He’s convincingly menacing, and he adds complexity to his characters that can make the audience sympathize with them (e.g. Agent Smith in the Matrix films).

EON Productions would be wise to reach out to Weaving regarding portraying the next James Bond villain. Perhaps he might be tired of taking on evil roles following the release of the Apple TV+ thriller drama show, but Bond 26 would greatly benefit from Weaving’s involvement. Ultimately, Weaving’s upcoming performance in Slow Horses season 4 should convince producers to (at the very least) consider him when casting Bond 26‘s villain.
