The DCEU brought the Justice League to the big screen, and with the new DC Universe having a Teen Titans movie on the way instead of a new entry for the Justice League, I believe that project should include two different squads to be something truly special. It is no secret that the Justice League is DC’s most famous team. After all, the superhero squad stars DC’s Trinity — Batman, Superman, and Wonder Woman — and other popular characters. Still, there are other exciting teams that should get the chance to shine in the DCU’s slate of projects.

Thankfully, DCU creative chief James Gunn is well aware of that. Multiple members of the Green Lantern Corps will appear in HBO’s Lanterns series, an anti-hero team will rise in The Authority movie, and there is a Teen Titans film reported to be on the way. I love the Teen Titans. My first exposure to the team was the animated series from the 2000s, which led me to search for Teen Titans comics and other animated projects. As a fan, I think it is great that the Teen Titans will be in the DCU, but there should be two teams.

I Think Damian Wayne Will Lead The DCU’s Teen Titans

A DCU Debut Is Confirmed

Damian Wayne, Batman’s fourth male Robin in DC Comics, is one of the latest leaders of the Teen Titans in the comics. The character has also been a member of the team in animated projects. I believe Damian will once again be the leader of the Teen Titans in the team’s planned DCU movie. First of all, Damian Wayne is one of the characters already confirmed to appear in the new DC Universe. The Robin will be the focal point of the DCU’s Batman reboot movie, The Brave and the Bold, directed by The Flash‘s Andy Muschietti.

That information was revealed by James Gunn, who said the upcoming Batman movie would focus on Bruce Wayne and his biological son Damian, showing how the two build a relationship after Bruce discovers he has a son. Based on the importance Damian will have in the DCU in his debut, I think it would make sense for him to be the leader of the Teen Titans. Gunn said that other members of the Bat-Family will also appear in the film, and that means Damian could be the youngest Robin, making him perfect for the team.

I Want Nightwing To Lead The Titans In The DCU Movie

Dick Grayson Is One Of DC’s Best Characters

While I think the DCU will make Damian Wayne the leader of the Teen Titans, I would like to see another member of the Bat-Family take center stage in the film. The project could actually be a Titans movie, focusing on the original formation of the team with Nightwing as its leader. Gunn has teased Nightwing’s inclusion in the DCU since he was announced as the creative mastermind of the franchise, and with multiple Bat-Family members confirmed for The Brave and the Bold, I believe it is safe to say that Dick Grayson is coming.

Nightwing is my favorite DC character, plain and simple. Dick is also one of the most charismatic heroes in DC Comics and one of the best leaders. Nightwing’s popularity has skyrocketed in the comics in recent years, with Dick leading two franchise-wide events as the leader of the Titans, who took over for the Justice League as Earth’s premiere superhero team. As the reported Teen Titans movie will be the first live-action film for the iconic comic book team, I think Nightwing deserves to be the project’s lead.

I Think The DCU Would Be Better Off With Both Titans Teams Active

There Is Room For Two Great Rosters

Based on how there is an argument for either Damian or Dick to lead the Teen Titans movie, perhaps it would be better for the DCU to use the project as a way to set up two versions of the team. The Titans have always included legacy characters, and so having two different teams would allow DC to get creative with their rosters, picking characters that connect to some of the franchise’s major heroes, like Wonder Woman and the Flash, before those characters are recast for the DCU.

The DCU’s Teen Titans Movie Can Finally Debut Another Team For The First Time In Their 60-Year History

A Teen Titans movie is in development for the new DC Universe, and the project could set up a fan-favorite team for the first time in a film.

Worldbuilding and crossovers aside, the DCU having a Teen Titans and a Titans team would be perfect for the universe to have some variety. The Teen Titans could serve as a coming-of-age storyline, while the older Titans can lead more mature projects and serve as a family like in the comics. By having the two teams in the Teen Titans film, DC would be honoring the squad’s legacy and setting up the DCU to be a truly living and breathing comic book universe — they just gotta make sure that Nightwing is in there for me.
