Warning! This article contains spoilers for The Bear season 3.

The Bear season 3 juggles a lot of character arcs, with a big portion of Carmy’s dedicated to his failed relationship with Claire, but do they get back together? In The Bear season 2’s ending, Carmy ruined his chances with Claire by angrily ranting that she was diverting his focus away from the titular restaurant and that she only served as a distraction and a waste of time. Given this dramatic end to their relationship, many were curious about how this story would be handled by the time of The Bear season 3’s ending.

It was confirmed early into production that Claire would return in The Bear season 3’s cast. As such, the expectation was that Carmy’s arc would center around attempting to fix what was broken with her. That said, Claire played a surprisingly small role in The Bear season 3 as the bulk of Carmy’s arc surrounded overcoming his demons in the kitchen. Naturally, Carmy had a lot on his metaphorical and physical plate this time around, begging the question of where he landed with Claire in The Bear season 3 and what this sets up for The Bear season 4.

The Bear Season 3 Never Reveals If Carmy & Claire Get Back Together

Carmy & Claire’s Relationship Hangs Over Season 3 Without A Clear Resolution

Carmy's reaction to the Chicago Tribune review in The Bear season 3's ending

Despite their breakup being a major component of The Bear season 2’s finale, Claire and Carmy’s resolution does not come in The Bear season 3. For much of the season, Carmy is steadfastly dedicated to perfecting the process of his new restaurant to, at best, earn a Michelin star and, at worst, simply stay open. Due to Carmy’s intense focus, he does not share a single scene with Claire in the present, with only a few flashbacks to their past experiences offering an insight into their relationship.

This may come as a welcome change for those who found Claire to be divisive in The Bear, but that does not mean Carmy’s ex-girlfriend does not have a role at all in The Bear season 3. Claire is found in a few scenes in The Bear‘s present timeline that center around her fallout with Carmy. Regardless, by the time The Bear season 3’s “To Be Continued” card flashed on screen in the season finale, Carmy is no closer to winning back Claire and apologizing for his actions.

Carmy Tried To Apologize To Claire In The Bear Season 3

Carmy’s Struggle To Apologize Is A Big Aspect Of His Character Arc

Although Carmy insists he is focusing on his work in the kitchen, an integral part of his story in The Bear season 3 is his desire to apologize to Claire. From the way he speaks about Claire, what he said to her, and his conversations with other workers in The Bear, it is abundantly clear that Carmy regrets his actions from The Bear season 2’s ending and wishes to apologize. However, The Bear season 3 also makes it clear how difficult Carmy finds it to overcome his past trauma and say the words.

Due to the various issues Carmy has experienced with his myriad family members, apologizing does not come as easy to him as it does to many others. Therefore, Carmy spends a large majority of The Bear season 3 wrestling with how to apologize to Claire without actually doing it. Until Carmy can work through the issues circulating in his head and find a positive work-life balance that has never come easy to him, it is likely the words “I am sorry” will remain in the pit of his stomach, as his AI-anon leader says in The Bear season 3.

The Faks Try Their Best To Match-Make With Claire & Carmy

Claire and Faks in The Bear season 3, episode 9

In The Bear season 3, episode 9, Carmy expresses his desire to apologize to Claire to Neil and Theodore, a.k.a. the Faks. Other than being a source of a fantastic The Bear season 3 cameo, the Fak family serves as an integral aspect of the titular restaurant. From handyman work to being all-around positive influences, the Faks are some of the more heartwarming, hilarious characters in The Bear. This extends to their attempts to push Carmy into apologizing to Claire, which they eventually realize he is unable to do in the aforementioned The Bear season 3, episode 9.

Sammy Fak’s Scene-Stealing Cameo In The Bear Season 3 Explained

The Fak family is a major component of The Bear’s comedy, with one member shining above all in season 3 thanks to a massive cameo appearance.

Knowing this, Neil and Theodore take matters into their own hands. The brothers visit Claire at the hospital where she works, hoping to express how Carmy feels about Claire, the former’s ingrained inability to apologize, and persuade the latter into taking the first step to fix things. However, Claire rebukes the two. She states that it is because she cannot think about it while she is working, but this likely stems from the pain Carmy caused her.

What Carmy said about Claire would be tough to hear for anyone, and Claire is likely doing exactly what Carmy is: focusing on work to avoid dwelling on her pain. More so than this, Claire will simply want Carmy to take accountability for his actions. Regardless of his traumatic reasons as to why he cannot, only Carmy can make things right with Claire. This explains why she sends the Faks away in The Bear season 3, despite appreciating the sweetness of the brothers for trying to help Carmy and Claire reconcile.
