Miranda Cosgrove Has Learned To Be Protective From Margo

Miranda Cosgrove has been playing Margo for fifteen years, so she surely has connected with her in many ways. When asked if she has learned anything from Margo over the years, she admits that she has become protective over her friends, just as Margo is over her younger siblings. She also reveals what she took from her personal life to help her get in the mindset of Margo, after Margo was forced to leave her friends and her home.

Miranda Cosgrove: Oh, that’s a good question. I would say, one of the things I love about Margo is that she’s really protective of her two younger sisters. I don’t have any siblings in real life, but I just love that about her so much. I feel like I’m a little bit like that when I’m just with my friend group, because I’m always the designated driver, and I’m always kind of worrying and wanting to make sure everybody’s good. So I’d like to think that I took that from her a little bit.

I just remember when I was going from elementary school to middle school, I was so nervous to make that transition. So I feel like I could totally relate to Margo in the movie because it’s just so scary sometimes. Even though she’s not even herself in the new city, she’s kind of playing a character, it’s still just scary, like stepping into a whole new world like that. So I could definitely relate.

Poppy & Margo’s Favorite Taylor Swift Songs

Joey King has been in two Taylor Swift music videos,Mean” and “I Can See You,” and considers her a friend. Swift has quite a collection of songs that allow listeners to go through all different waves of emotions. When asked what song of Taylor’s Joey thinks would be Poppy’s villain hype song, she has a great answer. Miranda Cosgrove also chimes in with what song of Taylor’s she thinks Margo would love.

Joey King: Oh my god. That’s a great question. Something from Reputation. “I Did Something Bad!”

Miranda Cosgrove: We were actually talking about this earlier, but I love “All Too Well.” I know that’s a lot of people’s favorites. The long version.

Summer is the perfect time for parents to take their children to the movies, so when asked why families should choose to see Despicable Me, Miranda Cosgrove says she just hopes that people have fun.

Miranda Cosgrove: I would just say that it’s really fun. And that the whole point of going to see it is just to be happy, to feel happiness, and have a good time. I loved, when I was little, going to see movies with my mom and dad, or my mom and dad and a friend. Anytime it’s a movie that everybody can enjoy together, I feel like that’s a really special thing. So I just hope people have fun.

Joey King: Speed agree.

Joey King On Joining The Despicable Me Franchise

Joey King is admittedly a big fan of the Despicable Me franchise, so she was thrilled to join as Poppy Prescott for Despicable Me 4. She discusses what it was like to find out that she got the role, as well as how she found Poppy’s voice, including how the fact that her character has a lisp came about.

Joey King: It was so exciting. I mean, I have grown up loving these movies. Absolutely adoring them. The very first premiere, I went as a fan to the premiere, and I was so happy, and it became such a big part of mine and my family’s life. My mom has a bunch of minion stuff, and she was a minion for Halloween. We love Despicable Me. So this phone call was one of my favorites in my career, for sure. And then being able to play a character that not only do, I get to be part of this franchise, but I love this character so much. And having the creative freedom to suggest different voices and voice attributes was really amazing. I had the best time recording this character.

I came in on my first recording session, and the directors were like, “Yeah, we’re so excited that you’re here. We love your normal voice, and you can just do that.” And you know, and I was like, “That’s cool. Yeah, I think we can definitely try that. I’d also love to try a couple other things if you’re open to it.” And they were like, “Okay”, and I tried three or four different kinds of voices but this one was the one. We all immediately were like, “Yeah, that’s really funny.” With the lines, especially when she’s saying very villainous stuff. Like when she says, “That’s the thing about blackmail. You don’t have a choice,” with a lisp was so funny.
