Some of the most powerful, gifted beings in the Marvel Universe make their home among the X-Men’s ranks. Now, Captain America has discovered one who wants nothing to do with the team – or the world in general. Seer, a mutant with precognition abilities that surpass even Destiny’s great skill, wants to make her own way in the world, and that seems like bad news for Steve Rogers.

Captain America #10 – written by J. Michael Straczynski, with art by Jesús Saiz – finds Steve Rogers on a mission from Lyra to find and lead the missing Change Agents to the safety of the Front Door. That task lands him in London, where he searches for his mysterious target.

By the time Cap finds her, the mutant known as Seer isn’t alone. She has used her powers to start a small community of her own, allowing her to live apart from the world of humans and mutants and remain “Switzerland” rather than be bought, sold, or killed for her gifts.

Although Captain America approached Seer on behalf of Lyra and the other Change Agents, the mutant clarifies that she isn’t interested in anyone’s agenda except her own. She insists that “normies” or humans want to turn her into a pet, and her fellow X-Gene carriers want her to join an impossible war, but she only cares about what she’s created for herself. Her extensive precognitive powers rival Irene Adler’s, making her a handsome target, and she tells Steve that she’s constantly pursued by those who would use it for their own gain.

The newly introduced mutant’s powers are an intersection between tapping into energy frequencies and prediction. Seer sees every possibility and probability, aided by simultaneously tapping into every type of video camera in the world, and “intuitively” knows which of those possibilities is going to happen. Moreover, Seer can share that gift with others, and she’s able to show Steve “everything” with a mere touch. .It’s little surprise that she has “billions” on her head, and she quickly proves that she’s one of the most powerful precognitive mutants around.

Seer’s gifts show her any potential outcome, which puts her a step ahead of everyone, including Cap. Much of their initial encounter is a lie. Steve Rogers isn’t easy to deceive, and the thorough deception proves what she’s capable of. Her abilities would make her a powerful ally, but will certainly make her an even more dangerous enemy if he fails to truly win her over. For someone who can see everything, nothing comes as a surprise. Seer isn’t bringing her impressive precognitive powers to the X-Men any time soon, but she could be the instrument of Captain America’s downfall.
