Gordon-Levitt did not offer a decisive answer to this inquiry, saying “I don’t know.” He quickly diverted the attention away from his cameo possibility and back to Knives Out franchise director Rian Johnson. How Joseph Gordon-Levitt Could Help The Already-Stacked Knives Out 3 Cast

The question of Gordon-Levitt’s Knives Out 3 appearance comes in response to the actor’s long-standing relationship with Johnson. Ever since Gordon-Levitt starred in the director’s 2005 film Brick, the actor has in some way featured — whether starring or cameoing — in every single of Johnson’s films from then on out. This includes the first two Knives Out films, the first of which he voices a character named Detective Hardrock and the second of which he is the voice for Miles’ Clock. These past appearances have led to speculation that Gordon-Levitt could appear in Wake Up Dead Man.

The actor’s established relationship with Johnson would be a reason alone to give him some kind of part in Knives Out 3. After all, fans would have fun trying to listen and watch closely for an appearance from Gordon-Levitt. Even better would be if the actor were offered a spot within the main ensemble cast for the Knives Out film. Gordon-Levitt’s ineffable charisma and wide range of characters would well equip him for the stories of Benoit Blanc, improving the Knives Out 3 cast.

With the huge existing cast for Wake Up Dead Man: A Knives Out Mystery, casting Gordon-Levitt in an on-screen roll seems unlikely. Glass Onion has shown this is not impossible, as Hugh Grant’s brief on-screen role likely only required a quick shoot, but added an exciting element to the film. The Knives Out films are notorious for their large and stacked ensembles. If Johnson and Gordon-Levitt play their cards right, Wake Up Dead Man will still incorporate Gordon-Levitt in some way.
