One Piece announces a new round of actors set to join season 2, including who will portray season 1’s ominous post-credit Marines villain Smoker. Eiichiro Oda’s beloved fantasy manga epic was brought to live-action in 2023, as Netflix adapted the series into an eight-episode series covering the first stretch of Monkey D. Luffy’s quest to find the fabled One Piece. With Luffy having placed the Straw Hat Pirate crew on the map in season 1, One Piece‘s final episode showed several parties eager to bring him in for the bounty reward, including Smoker.

As One Piece season 2’s cast grows, the official One Piece Twitter has unveiled the latest newcomers who will join in the next chapter of Luffy’s legend.

Following a brief cameo in One Piece season 1’s final episode, Callum Kerr will take on the role of Smoker the White Hunter, the Marine captain based in Loguetown, while Julia Rehwald will play subordinate Tashigi. Meanwhile, Rob Colleti will portray Drum Island ruler Wapol, and Ty Keogh set to stand by his side as guard Dalton

How Will Smoker Impact Luffy’s Quest?

Smoker Will Be A More Imposing Villain Than What Was Seen In Season 1

While Garp (Vincent Regan), Koby (Morgan Davies), and Helmeppo (Aiden Scott) may have been comfortable in letting the Straw Hats be on their way at the end of One Piece season 1, Smoker is set to be a much more opposing figure than the season 1 Marines. While a more free-spirited and unpredictable soldier when compared to his Marine colleagues, Smoker is still a strict and imposing figure with incredible dedication to his personal code. Whatever actions he takes are usually taken to uphold these values, be they against pirates or more complicated foes that muddy whether piracy is truly unjust.

With Loguetown likely one of the earlier stops for the Straw Hat Pirates in One Piece season 2, the Marine captain seems set to quickly become acquainted with Luffy’s team when the arrive in his city. With Tashigi at his side, Smoker is set to come to blows with not only Luffy’s crew, but Alvida (Ilia Isorelýs Paulino) and Buggy (Jeff Ward) when the two early Straw Hat foes return to wreak havoc. With his incredible dedication to the Marines’ mission, Smoker seems set to be a recurring foe pursuing Luffy.

While Smoker’s debut is unsurprising for longtime One Piece fans who had seen his season 1 tease, Kerr’s casting finally confirms that season 2 is heading to Loguetown despite some reshuffling in the order events. Both Smoker and Tashigi weren’t limited to Loguetown’s arc either, meaning that viewers may see more of their journey through the Netflix series’ expanded world. Furthermore, with Wapol and Dalton cast, it is clear that season 2 is set to adapt the majority, if not all of the Arabasta Saga into Neflix’s new reimagining.
