Jared Padalecki has shared what he wants a possible Supernatural reboot to look like. Despite the original Supernatural series finale providing a definitive ending for the Winchester brothers, both Padalecki and Jensen Ackles have repeatedly expressed an interest in returning to the show. However, both stars have also admitted to the problems inherent in aligning their respective schedules and highlighting the need for any future story to honor the integrity of the original show.

During a recent appearance on Tommy DiDario’s I’ve Never Said This Before podcast, Padalecki was approached again for an update regarding plans for a Supernatural series reboot.

Revealing that while he isdying to do another reboot of Supernatural”, he admitted that he does not want to commit to another extended run. Instead, Padalecki suggested he would be more interested in a limited series revival akin to the Gilmore Girls reboot consisting of four 90-minute episodes. He also reaffirmed Ackles’ commitment to a potential return as well. Check out his comments below:

I will say this. I don’t want to do another 15 years of Supernatural. I don’t want to do another 5 years of Supernatural, I am dying to do a reboot of Supernatural. Akin to the Gilmore Girls reboot. Here are four one-and-a-half-hour episodes. We’ll shoot it in three months. I think Jensen [Ackles] and I both said in 2020, ‘We’d love to revisit these characters, this world. Give us five years.’ Which is next year. And I see him often. And we talk often. I think he and I are both really eager to do it. I’m certain I’ll put the flannel on again and play Sam Winchester.

Should The Supernatural Reboot Bring Back The Original Creator?

Eric Kripke Helped Deliver The Show’s Most Memorable Stories.

Between the calls from an avid fanbase and the willingness of its stars to return for a Supernatural reboot, the revival is likely more a question of when rather than if. While Padalecki and Ackles are keen to return as the Winchester brothers, many viewers would argue that any plans for a series revival would be best placed into the hands of the show’s original creator and showrunner, Eric Kripke.

Supernatural has more than 300 episodes in the series run, but a few of these episodes completely change the tone and course of the entire series.

Serving as showrunner for Supernatural seasons 1 through 5, Kripke would later hand over the reign of the hit series to pursue other opportunities. However, he would remain involved as an executive consultant through Supernatural season 15 and even made a cameo appearance as himself in season 6. While Kripke’s attention now seems largely occupied with his work on The Boys, the recent announcement that the Prime Video show will wrap up after season 5 may provide him with the perfect opening to return to Supernatural once done.

As the mind responsible for helping shape Supernatural’s most memorable arcs, Kripke would undoubtedly be the most qualified person to helm any series reboot. Moreover, the former showrunner has also indicated that he is more than willing to reunite with Padalecki and Ackles if he can find a “story in that universe hasn’t been told.” With any luck, Supernatural’s long-anticipated return may be just around the corner and may even see the show’s original creator return to steer it.
