That ’90s Show part 2 brought audiences back to the 1990s for another summer in Point Place, Wisconsin, putting to use several great songs from the decade. The That ’70s Show spinoff series adopted many of its predecessor’s old tricks, including the frequent nostalgic references to various pop culture features of its setting. Of course, music is often a significant marker of any decade, and the 1990s are no exception. For this reason, That ’90s Show Part 2 is full of some of the most memorable songs of the first half of the 1990s.

Following Eric and Donna’s daughter Leia, That ’90s Show Part 2 is set in 1996—the middle of the decade known for gunge, alternative, experimental, and pop classics. The significance of music to this decade isn’t lost on Netflix, and each of the eight episodes of part 2 are named after popular song from the ’90s, though the songs themselves are, ironically, absent. Instead, the episodes of That ’90s Show part 2 pick up with That ’70s Show‘s opening song, “In the Street,” covered by Smashing Pumpkins guitarist James Iha, The Donnas’ Brett Anderson, before featuring a variety of other familiar ’90s hits.

That ’90s Show Cast, Character & Cameo Guide

Here’s a breakdown of the cast, characters, and cameos of That ’90s Show season 1, including the returns of That ’70s Show’s original main teens.

That ’90s Show Season 2 Episode 1 Songs

Episode Title: “You Oughta Know”

“Macarena” by Los del Rio – The first episode of That ’90s Show part 2 picked up with Kitty anxiously waiting for Leia to arrive for the summer while dancing to the intensely popular dance song, “Macarena” by Los del Rio. As if seeing everyone’s favorite sitcom mom (and now grandma) dancing to this tune wasn’t enough, the song plays out as Kitty, Gwen, and Jay all race in slow motion to the front door, hoping to be the first one to hug Leia.

Episode Title: “Something To Talk About”

“Stay (I Missed You)” by Lisa Loeb – Lisa Loeb’s “Stay (I Missed You)” was a feature of Leia’s daydream about how she would earn Jay’s forgiveness for almost kissing Nate in That ’90s Show part 2, episode 2, “Something to Talk About.” In classic That ’70s Show fashion, this scene came with a hilarious cameo from Loeb herself, who was confused about why Leia suddenly appeared in her apartment singing her song.

“Boombastic” by Shaggy – In another moment that screamed That ’70s Show comedy, Jay decided that the best way to get even with Leia for almost kissing Nate was to hook up with her mom, Donna. As the mini-Kelso entered the kitchen where Donna was making a sandwich, Shaggy’s “Boombastic” played out. Naturally, Donna wasn’t impressed.

Episode Title: “Just A Friend”

“Fresh Goes Better” by John & Richard Ryan Groves – Ozzie developed an obsession with Mentos in That ’90s Show part 2, episode 3, and this came into play when it was left to him to figure out how the teenage gang was going to get the Forman’s furniture back in the living room from next door. Ozzie daydreamed about the Abercrombie employees helping, all while he enjoyed his Mentos and the jingle “Fresh Goes Better” played in the background.

That ’90s Show’s season 1 finale leaves plenty of loose ends untied for Leia and the gang as summer 1995 comes to an end in Point Place.

That ’90s Show Season 2 Episode 4 Songs

Episode Title: “Hold My Hand”

“Be My Lover” by La Bouche – In yet another That ’90s Show daydream, the song “Be My Lover” by La Bouche plays as Kitty imagines Carmen Electra dancing for Red in the kitchen while making Shake ‘n Bake. Later, the same song plays as Red sweetly imagines his wife giving a sexy dance while making dinner instead.

“In the Meantime” by Spacehog After Ozzie’s breakup from his Canadian online boyfriend in That ’90s Show part 2, episode 4, “Hold My Hand,” Jay and Nate do their best to cheer their friend up, and they are ultimately successful when they suggest he let his cares blow away while riding on the top of their van. As Ozzie gleefully attempts to forget his troubles, the song “In the Meantime” by Spacehog plays.

That ’90s Show Season 2 Episode 5 Songs

Episode Title: “What Is Love”

“Un-Break My Heart” by Toni Braxton – In That ’90s Show part 2, episode 5, “What is Love,” the gang began to worry about Ozzie, who hadn’t been around since his big breakup. They tried to imagine what life had been like for him since the event, leading to another daydream. This time, Ozzie lip-synced to the song “Un-Break My Heart” by Toni Braxton as he dramatically moves about an empty house (and showers).

That ’90s Show Season 2 Episode 7 Songs

Episode Title: “Baby-Baby-Baby”

“I’m Kissing You” by Des’ree – Jay and Leia’s plan to finally take their relationship to the next level was thwarted by Red’s almost-heart attack in That ’90s Show part 2, episode 7, “Baby-Baby-Baby,” and the pair accompanied him to the hospital. While there, Leia imagined that she and her boyfriend were like Romeo and Juliet, which leads to a scene in which they look longingly at one another through a fishtank like Leonardo DiCaprio and Claire Danes in the movie Romeo + Juliet. Fittingly, the song “I’m Kissing You” by Des’ree accompanies this.

That ’90s Show Season 2 Episode 8 Songs

Episode Title: “Friends In Low Places”

“You Were Meant For Me” by Jewel – The final episode of That ’90s Show part 2 sees Nate realize that he still has feelings for Nikki, and this happens as he watches her sing “You Were Meant for Me” by Jewel and the surprise house party. Nikki (played by Sam Morelos) did the song great justice, and Nate realized that there was a lot about his ex-girlfriends that he didn’t know. The touching song was the perfect way to wrap up the more emotional part of That ’90s Show part 2’s storyline, with more such moments, accompanied by more great ’90s songs, sure to come in part 3.
