HBO’s Harry Potter TV show has now found its showrunner and a director. After a series of successful film adaptations, HBO is now set to bring the world of J.K. Rowling’s beloved novel series to the small screen. The upcoming Harry Potter TV show is expected to serve as a more faithful retelling of the source material, with one season for each of the seven books. It was reported earlier this year that the search for the series’ showrunner was underway.

Variety now reports that Francesca Gardiner will serve as showrunner and executive producer for the Harry Potter TV show. Mark Mylod has also been brought on board to direct multiple episodes and executive produce the series. The report claims that, with these two key figures having been brought on board, casting will be next.

Harry Potter is HBO’s remake of the iconic Wizarding World film series that consisted of eight films between 2001 and 2011. Each season adapts a book from JK Rowling’s popular series and provides more book-accurate details than the movies did. Upon the announcement of the Harry Potter TV show, the series received harsh criticism for the involvement of Rowling and for many thinking a reboot was unnecessary.
