Warning! Spoilers ahead for Batman/Superman: World’s Finest #28!The latest threat to come into Superman’s life is far more powerful than the hulking Doomsday could ever hope to be. The Man of Steel has had some powerful threats in the past, but his new one practically defies all comprehension.

It wasn’t too long ago that the colorful and strange Fifth Dimension was attacked by a terrifying figure known as Doom-Mite. This figure slaughtered the Fifth Dimension’s Just-Us League before heading to Earth for one reason: To find Earth’s greatest champion. Now Doom-Mite found his target and is out to prove he’s better than the DC Universe’s best heroes.

Superman’s New Villain Doom-Mite is a Sixth-Dimensional Nightmare

In Batman/Superman: World’s Finest #28 by Mark Waid, Dan Mora, Travis Mercer, Tamra Bonvillain, and Steve Wands, Doom-Mite has arrived after finding the mightiest hero on Earth. Unfortunately, that champion is Superman’s pal, Jimmy Olsen. Earth’s heroes prepare to fight Doom-Mite, but with a snap of his fingers, Doom-Mite dispatches the Justice League, leaving just Jimmy, Robin, and Mr. Mxyzptlk let on the battlefield. Mxyzptlk, petrified at the idea of fighting Doom-Mite, aids Olsen by transferring his Fifth-Dimensional powers to Jimmy.

Though perplexed at first, Jimmy quickly adapts to his newfound powers, using Mxyzptlk’s magic to deliver a giant pie into Doom-Mite’s face. The gigantic Doom-Mite begins their fight and nearly sends Jimmy flying into a tanker. Jimmy ups his game and transforms into a Superman-like hero, but the Sixth-Dimensional foe is just much too powerful for Olsen to handle. With Batman, Superman, and Bat-Mite traveling through the various dimensions, Robin tries to distract Doom-Mite and accuses him of being a coward that uses his might to pick on lower dimensions.

Doom-Mite strikes Robin with a powerful blast, but Jimmy returns with survivors of the Just-Us League. The imps bravely fight back against their Sixth-Dimensional foe. Unfortunately, Doom-Mite is much too powerful and he dispatches them all with ease. Thankfully, Batman, Superman, and Bat-Mite all arrive after escaping the First Dimension. The World’s Finest along with Robin and the imps prepare to make their final stand against Doom-Mite. But before Bruce can reveal his plan to take their opponent down, Doom-Mite blasts him with energy and turns Batman into a puppet.

Where Doom-Mite Came From And How He Took the DCU By Storm

Mr. Mxyzptlk was the first imp who became aware of the threat Doom-Mite posed and gathered his fellow Fifth-Dimensional pals in the Just-Us League to handle it. Unfortunately for him, the imps were more concerned about arguing over who the best hero was. However, their debate was interrupted by Doom-Mite who arrived with several imps modeled after the greatest villains in the DC Universe. Only Bat-Mite and Mxyzptlk were able to escape as Doom-Mite vowed to follow them and find Earth’s greatest champion through violence.

Bat-Mite and Mxyzptlk found Batman and Superman and delivered the news. At the same time, distress signals from the Justice League rang out across the world. The two split up into teams, Batman, Robin and Mxyzptlk and Superman and Bat-Mite. The teams headed out to their friends, only to find them fighting villains with imp partners. While the heroes took care of their foes, Mxyzptlk and Bat-Mite interrogated the imps and discovered that Doom-Mite was intentionally causing chaos to determine who Earth’s greatest hero was.

Batman, Superman, and Bat-Mite were eventually pulled into the Second Dimension, leaving Robin and Mxyzptlk, along with Jimmy Olsen to handle the situation. Figuring that Jimmy would be the perfect weapon thanks to his numerous transformations over the years, Mxyzptlk used his magic to create the ‘Olsen Squad’. The powerful team of Olsen variants took down the villains and saved the day. However, this attracted the attention of Doom-Mite. Satisfied that Earth’s mightiest hero had been determined, Doom-Mite challenged Jimmy Olsen to a life or death battle.

Doom-Mite is the Strongest Threat Superman (Or Any DC Hero) Has Ever Faced

Doom-Mite Attacks Jimmy Olsen DC

Superman has fought a lot of powerful villains over the years. He’s gone head-to-head with Darkseid, participated in a battle against the Anti-Monitor, and even experienced death at the hands of Doomsday. But this new Sixth-Dimensional threat is literally on another level. Even Mr. Mxyzptlk possesses power that exceeds the Man of Steel, he just finds it more fun to be a pain in Superman’s neck. But Doom-Mite’s power is beyond even Mxyzptlk’s as the Sixth Dimension is a world where time and space blend together.

So far, there’s been nothing that presents a genuine threat to Doom-Mite. For all of Jimmy’s best efforts using Mxyzptlk’s power, Doom-Mite shrugged each attack off. When Jimmy returned with an entire army of Fifth-Dimensional imps, none of them could put a dent in Doom-Mite. Sure, Superman hasn’t fought this foe directly yet. But Clark can’t even fight Mxyzptlk in a one-on-one confrontation. How is Superman supposed to beat a monster that is quite possibly one of the most powerful beings in existence?

It’s not that Superman hasn’t fought godlike beings before. Even Doomsday was relatively tame compared to Doom-Mite and he managed to put the Man of Tomorrow in the ground. But what separates Doom-Mite from a villain like Doomsday is that there was a logic to beating him. Superman simply had to attack him at a rate faster than Doomsday could regenerate. But Doom-Mite exists on a level where all logic flies out the window. Doom-Mite is chaos incarnate and is more powerful than Superman can fathom.

Whatever chances they had at defeating Doom-Mite may have gone out with Batman being turned into a puppet. But Clark has a lot of experience dealing with god-like menaces thanks to his history with Mxyzptlk. Perhaps getting Doom-Mite to say his name backward will do the trick. Or maybe it’ll have to be some other next-level mind game. Whatever Clark does, he’d better do it fast. Doom-Mite is too dangerous to be left running around the DC Universe. Hopefully, Superman has a backup plan that can help him defeat his new godlike foe.
