Following its delay for 2026, one of the actors for The Batman – Part II reveals some optimism for the DC sequel’s principal photography. Even though the DCEU movie timeline had its many struggles over the last few years, 2022 was a success for a different DC franchise as Matt Reeves’ The Batman Universe came to life with Robert Pattinson as the next cinematic Caped Crusader. While a spinoff series in Reeves’ franchise, The Penguin, is arriving on Max this year, the world is actively waiting to get any new details on The Batman – Part II.

At this year’s ACE Superhero Comic Con (via PopVerse), The Batman cast member Andy Serkis – who played Alfred Pennyworth in the 2022 installment – was one of the featured guests, and The Batman – Part II came up during his panel. Serkis revealed that they are likely set to start “filming early next year” while laying out the hypothetical timeline for production before the film’s release:

Basically, I know nothing about the movie other than that I’ve just found out that we’re probably likely to be starting filming early next year. Therefore, if you do the math, it’ll be a year and a half after that. I know that Matt [Reeves] is working really hard on the script. Matt Reeves being Matt Reeves, the extraordinary filmmaker that he is, I can only assume that it’s going to be another brilliant script, because I thought what he did with that first film was pretty amazing. I loved working with Rob Pattinson, and I really look forward to playing Alfred once more.

10 Batman Movie Rumors Debunked By James Gunn

With a Batman reboot film for the new DCU and Robert Pattinson’s The Batman – Part II on the way, James Gunn has debunked several movie rumors.

The Batman – Part II Update Challenges The DC Sequel’s Biggest Rumors

Despite The Batman’s critical and financial success, updates on The Batman – Part II have been a complex journey to this point. Reeves’ sequel was originally set to start shooting in November 2023, but given the WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes that took place last year, The Batman – Part II was never able to kick off principal photography. That’s why Warner Bros. Discovery and DC Studios had to finally make the call this year to push Pattinson’s upcoming installment till 2026.

With James Gunn’s DC Universe coming up, including The Brave and The Bold movie, there have been multiple rumors about The Batman – Part II supposedly not happening anymore, which have persisted to a degree even after the DC Studios co-CEO debunked them. However, Serkis’ latest update proves once again that Reeves and his team are simply taking their proper time to craft the perfect follow-up story for The Batman – Part II, allowing it to look at outdoing the first film as much as possible.

Once Reeves is finished with The Batman – Part II script, the movie will likely get further into pre-production during the fall. That would include building sets for The Batman – Part II, as well as beginning to cast the next batch of characters that will join the Elseworlds-based franchise. Hopefully, the world will not have to wait too much longer for big news about The Batman – Part II, including its proper filming date for 2025.
