Two new actors for Beverly Hills Cop: Axel F discuss their roles as the sidekick and villain. Following up 1994’s Beverly Hills III, Beverly Hills: Axel F sees protagonist Axel Foley back on a mission as his daughter’s life is threatened by a new conspiracy. The film features a leading cast including Eddie Murphy, Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Judge Reinhold, Kevin Bacon, John Ashton, Bronson Pinchot, Paul Reiser, and Taylour Paige. It is set to release on Netflix on July 3.

In an exclusive interview with Screen Rant, Gordon-Levitt and Bacon discuss their roles. Check out the full quotes from Gordon-Levitt and Bacon below:

Joseph Gordon-Levitt: Bobby Abbott… I like to think of him as a new kind of cop action hero guy. He’s not just the dude that’s going to be like, “Who do I have to beat up to save the day?” He’s empathetic. He’s someone who’s got some emotional intelligence and can understand what someone else is thinking.

That means if you pair him with Axel Foley, and Axel tries his normal tricks, Bobby’s going to see through it. He’s a formidable sidekick, and I like that. I think that’s one of the things that works about this movie. There are a bunch of conventions in it, but all of them are a little bit turned on their head or nuanced.

Kevin Bacon: This time, the bad guy’s a Beverly Hills cop. He is a guy who has a lot of resentment for his current situation. He’s convinced himself that he hasn’t gotten a fair deal and that he needs to cash out; that it’s time for him to cash out. And he’ll do anything that he can to get his cash.
