Charlie Brown from Peanuts and Calvin from Calvin and Hobbes have officially met in an adorable mashup. When looking for the most beloved newspaper comics, Peanuts and Calvin and Hobbes easily rank as some of the absolute best. Their depictions of childhood have made a huge imprint on readers throughout the years, solidifying them as two of the greatest comics of all time. Now, one fanartist has brought each franchise’s biggest character together in a glorious meetup.

Artist Adam Murphy took to Instagram recently to share a heartfelt piece of art showing Charlie Brown and Calvin sitting side-by-side. Charlie Brown is depicted with his iconic worried expression, while Calvin looks at him in curiosity. There’s no inclusion of Snoopy or Hobbes in the background. It’s just the two of them on a sunny day, sitting together.

For a crossover between two of the biggest comics of all time, it’s remarkably simple considering what one could expect when these two worlds collide. However, it’s this simplicity that makes it an absolute gem.

Calvin and Hobbes Meeting Peanuts Doesn’t Need Calvin’s Wild Imagination

Calvin Being a Normal Kid Works in the Peanuts Universe

Calvin and Hobbes is known for Calvin’s overactive imagination. So, it may be surprising to some fans to see a meeting between Charlie Brown and Calvin be remarkably tame. There’s no mention of Spaceman Spiff or Calvin’s love for dinosaurs. It’s just an innocent sitdown between the two. However, that’s what is so remarkable about this. Calvin’s imagination is restricted to his perspective. Peanuts, on the other hand, is far more grounded as it shows the everyday lives of kids.

Peanuts‘ simple concept was a major influence on Calvin and Hobbes, so it works to ground Calvin as well, paying homage to his simpler and more philosophical strips. If Charlie Brown was featured as a dinosaur or a tag-along on Spaceman Spiff’s adventures, it would feel more like Calvin and Hobbes artwork featuring Charlie Brown. However, by keeping things level, it comes off as a perfect meeting between two iconic characters. They’re simply sitting down, having a chat and enjoying the day.

The Imaginative Side of Calvin and Hobbes Could Work Within the World of Peanuts

Snoopy and Hobbes Would Make an Incredible Pair

Of course, just because Charlie Brown wouldn’t necessarily fit in with Calvin’s imaginative adventures, that doesn’t mean Peanuts can’t work with Calvin and Hobbes‘ style. Snoopy is the imaginative heart of the Peanuts series. He has a wide variety of alternate identities such as Joe Cool, the World War I Flying Ace and an award-winning writer. If he were to pair up with Calvin’s stuffed tiger Hobbes, the two could get along incredibly well on epic adventures that fit with Peanuts‘ imaginative side. Whether they take Calvin’s time machine to fend off the Red Baron or transmogrify themselves into birds to pal with Woodstock, these two would pair incredibly well together.

Of course, a follow-up to this long-awaited meetup would be entirely up to Adam Murphy. He’s spotlighted the artwork of Peanuts and Calvin and Hobbes countless times in unique mashups with other franchises, such as The Rocketeer. Anything is possible with his incredible artwork, but a simple meetup between Charlie Brown and Calvin is an absolutely perfect way to finally bring the worlds of Peanuts and Calvin and Hobbes together for the first time.
