Though absent from the most recent movie in the franchise, Dominique Tipper confirms that Apex Cybernetics and Brenda Holland will be back for Monarch: Legacy of Monsters season 2. The Apple TV+ show serves as an expansion of Legendary’s Monsterverse, exploring the origins of the titular organization as well as their impact on the world following Godzilla’s first major re-emergence in San Francisco in 2015. One of the big points explored in the show is the early days of Apex Cybernetics, the tech corporation seen in Godzilla vs. Kong as having created Mechagodzilla and nearly destroying Hong Kong when King Ghidorah’s consciousness possesses the weapon.

During a recent interview with Screen Rant for her upcoming video game Dustborn, Dominique Tipper was asked whether she would be reprising her character of Apex exec Brenda Holland in Monarch: Legacy of Monsters season 2. The star eagerly confirmed that she will be back as Brenda in the next season of the Monsterverse show, though noted that she doesn’t know what her storyline is yet, but hopes that audiences get to see a different side of her than in season 1. Check out what Tipper shared below:

I don’t know if I’m allowed to say, actually. No – I am. Yes, I am, because Chris Black, the creator, he mentioned it at the upfront, so yes: you will see more of Brenda Holland. I don’t really know what her storyline is entirely just yet, but I hope we get to see a lot more different sides of her ethics and her morality. But again, I don’t actually know, so this is just my own wishes for the character.

Because I think we’ve seen one side of her, and she’s the main antagonist in a way, so I’m interested to see what else we get to see from her in season 2, and how that then contrasts with the lead characters, or if it doesn’t. I love gray areas. I think that’s always what makes characters great, when you’re just like, “Oh, I kind of agree with her on this point, but not that one.” More of that, really, and more fabulous outfits, because I think it’s the first time I’ve worn heels on screen.

How Brenda’s Return Can Further Build Apex’s Future In The Monsterverse

Tipper’s confirmation that Brenda will be returning for season 2 may not come as too much of a surprise following the Monarch: Legacy of Monsters season 1 ending. It was previously revealed that Kiersey Clemons’ May was once an employer at Applied Experimental Technologies, who went from attempting to spy on Monarch to forming a deal with them and rebranding to Apex Cybernetics. The season 1 ending subsequently saw Hiroshi Randa, Kentaro and Tim collaborating with Apex in the hopes of finding Cate, May and Lee after they were pulled into the rift into Hollow Earth, though were actually trapped in Axis Mundi for two years.

Much like season 1 did for the titular organization, Monarch: Legacy of Monsters season 2 can offer a further expansion of Apex’s history in the Monsterverse. Their exact origins still have yet to be revealed within Legendary’s franchise, though season 1 did reveal when their rebranding and collaboration with Monarch first came about, which Tipper’s Brenda was at the heart of. With her return, the show’s multi-timeline storytelling could further explore the company’s past, including Demián Bichir’s Walter Simmons and how he first became fascinated with the studying of Titans.

What APEX Is Doing At THAT Monsterverse Location In Monarch’s Show

Monarch: Legacy of Monsters season 1’s ending revealed APEX is based at a surprising Monsterverse location. What are they doing there?

The other potential path for Apex’s return in Monarch: Legacy of Monsters season 2 is to explore the lost time Cate, May and Keiko experienced while trapped in Axis Mundi. With the corporation now having an outpost on Skull Island, and showrunner Chris Black already teasing that King Kong will play a bigger role in season 2 after his surprise season 1 finale cameo, the next set of episodes could very well build on the growth they’ve experienced since partnering with Monarch. The 2017 storyline could also explain Brenda’s absence from the Monsterverse movies via an unfortunate death by a Titan, or firing from the company should her softer side go against their objective.
