Presumed Innocent’s Streaming Success Explained

Why Jake Gyllenhaal’s New Show Is A Hit

Presumed Innocent‘s Rotten Tomatoes critics’ score currently sits at 75%, suggesting a somewhat softer response from critics than from audiences. Despite this, reviews generally praise the new Apple TV+ series, with the Presumed Innocent cast proving to be a particularly strong aspect of the show, on top of its central mystery. In addition to the positive reviews, Gyllenhaal’s presence as the lead is likely a major reason for the show’s success.

10 Best Shows Like Apple TV+’s Presumed Innocent

Crime dramas are some of the most popular series on TV. Apple TV’s Presumed Innocent & shows like it demonstrate the best parts of the genre.

Gyllenhaal somewhat rarely takes on more traditional leading man roles, at least compared to some of his contemporaries, but he’s still a major Hollywood star. His power as a lead actor was demonstrated earlier this year with Prime Video’s Road House remake, which also became a major streaming success despite more lukewarm reviews. In addition to Gyllenhaal’s star power, Presumed Innocent being based on existing IP is also a major benefit.

Not only is the show sure to appeal to those who read Turow’s book, but the story was previously adapted into a movie starring Harrison Ford in 1990. The Presumed Innocent movie was generally well-regarded by critics and became a major box office success, and it’s likely that audiences who enjoyed that film would be interested in seeing a new take on that same story. Presumed Innocent won’t be getting a season 2 since it’s being billed as a limited series, but the show is evidently finding its audience.

New episodes of Presumed Innocent are released on Apple TV+ on Wednesdays.
