Satoru Gojo from Jujutsu Kaisen has grown immensely in popularity and has become one of the forefront faces of the anime and manga industry. Blessed with exceptional abilities from birth, Gojo has grown to become the strongest sorcerer of the modern era in Gege Akutami’s JJK. Every specialty that a sorcerer needs, Satoru has it. Even though he is the strongest, Gojo’s charm is the best quality in him and is probably another reason for the character’s popularity.

However, Gojo’s major reason for being popular is that he is the strongest. The definition of being stronger than anyone else puts Gojo on a different scale than others, which is portrayed very well in the series. The author had done their best to keep Gojo out of the main narrative as much as possible, as the character has the potential to steal the spotlight from others in Jujutsu Kaisen. Gojo’s appearances are carefully crafted to serve as the ultimate solution when situations become dire.

This has incidentally led Gojo to become the final trump card for the sorcerers or the series to use when the outcome of a circumstance isn’t in the heroes’ favor. While it was perhaps acceptable to use Gojo as a strategic tool when he was alive, Jujutsu Kaisen has taken this a step further by utilizing his presence and influence even in death.

Chapter #261 Solidifies That Satoru Gojo’s Presence in the Series Is Merely a Tool

Yuta Harboring Gojo’s Body Underscores the Strongest Sorcerer’s Meaning in the Series

In Jujutsu Kaisen Chapter #261, titled “Inhuman Makyo Shinjuku Showdown, Part 33”, Gojo’s return in the series is revealed to be Yuta inhabiting the corpse of his mentor rather than the strongest sorcerer coming back himself. Then, the chapter delves into how this scenario was orchestrated, with Yuta explaining to the other sorcerers his plan to take over Gojo’s corpse if Satoru were to fall. While the sorcerers initially disagree with this plan, their concerns center solely on Yuta, highlighting their worries about him rather than Gojo.

This chapter later depicts Gojo’s response to this plan. While the strongest sorcerer doesn’t care about what happens to his body after he dies, Gojo exclaims how one of his closest friends, Shoko Ieiri, was on board with this plan without any objection. While this scene might initially be perceived as a joke, it underscores a deeper issue: not a single sorcerer opposed the use of Gojo’s corpse as a weapon. Perhaps, only Yuta shows any remorse for Gojo by taking care of becoming a monster in his absence, but this still involves exploiting the strongest sorcerer even after his death.

Jujutsu Kaisen Has Set a Depressing Trend With Gojo’s Character

Even in death, Gojo is treated as an object by those around him

Another scene that highlights Gojo’s role as a tool occurs before the battle with Sukuna begins. In chapter #220 of Jujutsu Kaisen, before Gojo’s imminent return from the prison seal, Shoko remarks that the sorcerers are looking to Gojo to lead, rather than expressing concern for his well-being. When the conflict against the King of Curses began, Gojo was thrust into the frontline as a safeguard against Ryomen Sukuna, with other sorcerers following suit.

Although Gojo volunteered to face Sukuna first, prioritizing the safety of his comrades, the sorcerers could have perhaps objected and suggested a different strategy, one that might have involved Gojo analyzing Sukuna’s abilities from far first to give him an advantage in battle. However, the series continued to depict Gojo being thrown at the problem from the start. Gojo’s return in Jujutsu Kaisen exclaims that the strongest sorcerer is being used as a tool with no remorse for the character, even after his death.
