Roseanne star Sandra Bernhard apologized to her former co-star Morgan Fairchild for her behavior on the set of the sitcom, explaining how much she regretted her attitude at the time. Bernhard portrayed Nancy Bartlett, who was one of the first lesbian characters on TV, while Fairchild played her season 5 girlfriend, Marla. Bernhard continued to portray Nancy on the cast of Roseanne in a recurring capacity until season 9, later making a guest appearance in the revived season 10.

Now, Deadline reports that, on the talk show Watch What Happens Live, Bernhard apologized to Fairchild for treating her poorly on the set of Roseanne. The actor explained how she believed her attitude at the time wasn’t appropriate, and she wanted to remedy this with a sincere apology. Check out what Bernhard had to say below:

It’s one of my biggest regrets that I wasn’t nicer to her. I was a little dismissive of Morgan, and to this day, would like to say to Morgan, you are incredible to work with, you went there…. I owe you an apology. I adore you. And thank you for putting up with my snotty little attitude.

In addition, Fairchild responded with a post on Twitter thanking the actor for her kind words:

How Sandra Bernhard & Morgan Fairchild Bolstered Roseanne

They Were The Show’s First LGBTQ+ Couple

Both Bernhard’s Nancy and Fairchild’s Marla formed a relationship during season 5 of the series, giving the show its first LGBTQ+ relationship in the process. This was a rarity on TV during the 1990s, with the pair’s relationship breaking ground for cable TV through its presentation. While Fairchild didn’t stay on the show for long, she still played the recurring character’s first girlfriend. Because of this, their relationship is a well-remembered part of the show, making it surprising to learn the recurring actor didn’t have the best of relationships with her co-star behind the scenes.

Because of how important both actors were to helping the series break new ground, it’s good to see the pair publicly reconciling about their past work on the show. The fact they were willing to resolve their issues together shows how they still had a connection after so long, something that made their time on the series an important stepping stone in their careers. While it’s unlikely their reunion will lead to something like a surprise guest appearance on The Connors season 7, the fact they’re speaking after making amends is a positive resolution for the actors.

The Conners Season 7 Most Impossible Roseanne Return Is The Best Way To End Jackie’s Story

The Conners is ending with season 7, and the best way to end Jackie’s overall arc involves pulling off the most impossible Roseanne character return.

As for the franchise itself, Roseanne’s spinoff will be coming to a close with its upcoming season, and with it, the many character stories that have been around for decades. However, Bernhard and Fairchild’s performances will still be well-remembered, especially now that the pair have publicly made up. While it doesn’t seem like they’ll be reprising their roles in the future, the mature handling of their situation together acts as a feel-good story for both actors and their respect for one another.
