This cosplayer has worked hard to perfect her version of Padmé’s fireside dress from Star Wars: Episode II – Attack of the Clones, and her hard work has clearly paid off. Padmé wears this iconic black dress as she discusses with Anakin the incredible danger that a romance between them would bring. She’s right, of course, but she ultimately gives into her feelings, and the two are secretly wed at the end of the movie. This relationship would soon be the catalyst of Anakin’s fall to the dark side.

Cosplayer @the.naboo.senator posted a video on Instagram showcasing her final version of Padmé’s dress from her dinner with Anakin, along with the two previous attempts.

Hopefully the last version of this,” she jokes in the post’s caption. She goes on to explain what she was dissatisfied with on each of the dresses, pointing out what lessons she learned along the way. A testament to hard work paying off, she declares that she loves everything about the final version, saying, “I’m so proud of my progress.

Padmé’s Many Costume Changes Signify Her Changing Life

Padmé’s outfits often play a larger role in her story than simple fashion. As a young queen, her huge dresses served as a kind of body armor as well as a camouflage of sorts. By the time Padmé returns in the second prequel movie, she’s stepped down as queen and is serving the Republic as a senator instead. Star Wars: Episode II – Attack of the Clones sees Padmé in more costumes than the other installments, and this is because she goes through the most personal changes in this movie.

This movie sees Padmé in her new role as a senator, but it also brings her relationship with Anakin to a boiling point. Her outfits tend to feel free-flowing when she is alone with Anakin. During their dinner, when she rejects his advances, Padmé’s dress seems restrictive; her accessories all visually work together to give the illusion of a cage. Regardless of her feelings, Padmé is a realist who puts logic above desire – up to a point. By the end of Star Wars: Episode II – Attack of the Clones, Padmé has allowed herself to prioritize what she wants.

The elected Queen of Naboo, Padmé Amidala won galactic acclaim for her heroism when she led her people against the Trade Federation. She became an influential member of the Republic Senate, but her life changed forever when she fell in love with Anakin Skywalker. Padmé Amidala found herself torn between her love for Anakin and her belief in the principles of the Republic, especially when Anakin became Darth Vader. She was brutally attacked by Anakin on Mustafar, and died in childbirth.
